Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is there a positive alternative to Dell?

I've been going through several of other tech company pages on this forum, and it's like looking in the mirror. Every one of them has the same issues we are taking about here daily. Layoffs, no raises, management issues, replacing higher paid workers with no good reason, no chances to advance... Are there any companies left that are not failing and that actually treat their workers decently?

The traditional large cap IHV's are all in the same situation. There are tons of opportunities in smaller start-ups. However, if your a long time EMC employee, smaller startups will be very reluctant to hire you. You need to make sure you have a relevant skill set (Big Data, Security, ReaL Cloud/Dev Ops) and find a smaller company. Once your out and in elsewhere, you will see how much opportunity there is. Find a small company and convince them that you will actually do work, not be a big strategy guy and expect staff and tons of support. I know this because I did this after 20 years at EMC.

@OsvVBiZ-qef - not quite dinosaurs mating. More like Sears and JC Penny merging to compete with Amazon.

Forget Boston and move to Bay Area startups. There is revolution happening there. They probably wouldn't hire someone from EMC. Dell is a bad reputation to carry on with.

Dell Storage folks wouldn't like EMC facility. They will miss the stinking toilets they are so used to.

I am frantically working with India HR and Legal to sort it out. It gonna happen soon after the layoff. Dell Storage clean up will happen first before move to EMC. Big heads are gonna roll.

Agree most tech companies are in similar state. But in current time Dell EMC is unique because this was the biggest technology acquisition in history. It is as many have described as two Dinosaurs mating. There are too many overlapping functions and inefficiency in these two legacy companies with combined workforce of 170k. That's a huge fricking company doing nothing innovative . Hence repercussions on employees are huge. no big raises and layoffs. Join a thriving small or mid range company and your experience will be different.
