Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Time to leave

I recommended that all Department Managers start looking for work the minute that I heard the rumors about the January round of layoffs. You're foolish to stay if your a CSA5. There are no spots in the company for you to move into, at anywhere near the same pay. I found a job quickly when the DM positions were eliminated in January. I was blessed to have three interviews right as things blew apart. Some others at my former store saw the light and moved on as well.

Lowe's is making some bad decisions. Part-timers and seasonal employees do not receive the proper training and will never be committed to the job at hand. We never could fill more than half of the seasonal positions anyway, so how are the layoffs bringing more people to interface with customers? It's a lie that Niblock and corporate have floated to the less than inquisitive media. Any idiot could do basic research and find that there are no more and maybe less payroll hours per store now than before the purge. The seasonal folks will be released soon if not already. If the LOW stock is shaky now, wait until the third quarter when the real damage of what Niblock has done really hits home.

My store promoted two new Department Managers into the Service Manager roles. Neither had been employed with Lowe's for more than two years and one was about 6 months. Another has had multiple documented substance abuse issues and was offered a promotion. Can we say favoritism anybody? People with a year or 6 months of management experience promoted over those with up to 12 years should have been a no brainer. It was obvious that decisions were made before the bogus interviews that DMs had to suffer through. You can't replace dedication and years of experience with uninformed and inexperienced managers or staff. I originally said that this was a loss for the employees, the company and the customers and I was right. Last one out of Lowe's, turn the lights out. I'm currently shopping at Home Depot.

Lowe's is completely lost and will continue to make all these stupid moves until the stock crashes. I have no clue why it's as high as it is other then piggy backing HD. They own us. They are so far advanced. Wait till next qrt earnings. Another disappointing one coming..

Lowe's has gone through "purges" every few years, The real purpose is that they want to reduce the higher paid staff and managers. The idea that you can make a career at Lowe's is nuts. You can just stay long enough, to move up, just to have them lay you off when you make any decent money. Now the remaining CSA5's are working just as much for less money than they were as DM's. The new Service Managers are doing ASM work and getting a small bone thrown their way as far as pay. Lowe's continues to work the hell out of it's people with unrealistic expectations and then the aloof corporate types wonder why customer service is less than sterling!

Myself and other ex-dept. mgrs at our store opted to be demoted to CSA4's AND we got to keep our DM pay to which I was shocked but definitely took it.

Doesn't anyone remember Circuit City? it should be a cautionary tale. They were trying to rid themselves of all the full-timers who were making decent money and instead hired part-timers who were college kids and high school kids and people stopped shopping at a place where the associates had very little knowledge of what they were selling. By the way, the CSA5's are external hires, which means that any schmuck off the street has as much of a chance as you when filling an internal position.

Not true in all stores...my store did not push out the highest paid as they are still in position.

This is the same in every store. They wanted to push the vets out. They were salary hunting. Plus they wanted to change the culture. They wanted younger new blood that would do what ever they said without question. More millennials. As they are very naive. They think if they give them a small raise they will do anything they want. We can't change what upper management wants. only save some self respect and move on..
