Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Delivery Drivers let go today?

Anyone else hear that ALL delivery drivers were let go today, and that Lowe's is switching to a third party flat bed company? One service manager was walking around saying this at around 3pm today, and all ASMs and HR were in SM's office.

Raises don't really matter. Lowe's has always underpaid delivery drivers. And they still do. It's also the reason they prefer tandems versus semi's. Cheaper to hire a Class B CDL than a Class A.

All stores currently using a 3rd party delivery for box truck will be adding 3rd party for flatbed deliveries. Drivers will be let go out of those stores. Stores currently not having a 3rd party will keep their trucks & drivers until a 3rd party delivery team is in place then they will be let go with three weeks notice.

Niblock lost some money this year. Time for you punks to pay it back.. Amazing how corporate thinks what people are worth and they want US TO HELP THEM LOVE WHERE THEY LIVE???? Yet they step on us all the time. I don't think they understand people very much. If you treat someone like crap you'll get crap back. The more you step on people the more angry they get and you won't get the result you are looking for. We will NOT help customers love where they live till you NIBLOCK help us love where we work..

I overheard that our area isn't going to 3rd party yet because our drivers are still cheaper. An ASM said that since delivery causes most of our claims and damages in the company, the insurance costs too much now. That's why the company wants to unload them. Let the 3rd party take the hit.

i was told my position will no longer be available to me after the 18th of august due to the 3rd party delivery service lowes is currently using, it will be rolling through all of the lowes in the near future

Most of Region 18 went through this over 6 years ago. The third party handles both van and flatbed deliveries. The challenge is in lower volume stores that end up sharing deliveries with other lower volume stores near them. We had delivery trucks arriving after 3pm because we were the second or third store on the delivery schedule. Try explaining that to your customers and pro customers. It also adds to the fun when you can't send a delivery out for an "emergency" to satisfy an upset customer or even something basic like hooking up a washer or dryer. Add to that the fact that this third party doesn't get the Customer Care issues so unfortunately 99% of them don't really care how they take care of the customer. Good luck with the transition.

Well I used to work for Lowe's and I saw this coming after they spent millions in each store to remodel them. They spent $7 million in my old store and that's when I knew something was going to happen. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Our sales were down but yet they decided to spend $7 million? They're going to be like Home Depot, they'll get rid of the hr managers next and the goal is to have only hourly employees not salary, and those hourly employees won't be getting paid much. Lowe's is a failing company and it's because I believe they spent too much in their stores.

My DM was demoted to a floor position after providing Lowe's with absolutely the best service anyone could expect.Good luck to you CDL brothers .Me,45 years with a perfect performance record 6.5 with Lowe's Lets see Lowe's match that

In response to posts about drivers being laid off. I am a tandem driver on east coast, and yes we all got our notices on Friday. Last day of work for us is 8-18-17. We were encouraged to apply to third party taking over. Feeling this decision was not thought through well.

Why can't you tell a customer? It's the truth. It's not slander against Lowes. We're you told not to discuss it outside of work too. I am not an employee at Lowes but, they could have handled this a different way. Like hire people to have deliveries ready for the drivers. So they can deliver in a timely manner. Regardless of what anyone says, this was an unfair move. With unfair blame put on the men that worked hard to get orders pulled, staged, print tickets, load the truck, make it safe and try to be sure customers got what they were promised. You can be sure the 3rd. party drivers will not pull their orders. It will be ready.

Verbal for telling customers rumors from a public forum, write up for the sales floor incident, and nothing for the break room scenario....

They can't tell you to quit reading this. Telling customers about it, yes that's not cool. Where was their head? Reading it on the sales floor, um are they stupid? Reading posts out loud in the break room?? Sorry, but I would fight that write up. They didn't break any rules.

My store in PA was not effected. Two others near me were. An ASM told us that the larger stores were effected because they could not keep up with deliveries.

We were also told to quit looking at this site. Several people have been written up in my store because of it; one told customers about it, another was reading posts out loud in the break room, other were looking at it on the sales floor.

Ok, so I have been lurking all the forums for quite some time. I have some comments to add to this.

Someone said that the new credo should be "to do the least amount possible, to increase profits at all cost, and to sel, sell, sell." Well, that's what your supposed to do. Although I don't like the "at all cost" statement. You still have to be honest and ethical. You can increase profits without being shady. It just a matter of identifying inefficiencies, studying current trends, and getting in the mind of the customer in order to maximize the chance of completing a sale. Yes, flatbed loads not being pulled is a huge inefficiency. In my opinion, drivers should not be pulling anything. They load in receiving, everything that they deliver (excluding flat bed loads) should be in receiving. Not in appliance aisle or the blue room. They go to appliance aisle to snag a dishwasher and it takes 2 people. If they are both delivery drivers then you just wasted precious time that they could have been using to get out the door quicker. As far as removing old appliances, that is a service we do for the customer. We offer free haul away for a reason. As for overloading the trucks (I personally don't work in delivery so I don't know) but I highly doubt those trucks are overloaded. If they are then it's the drivers fault. It's his job to ensure that his load is within the vehicles weight limit and is his responsibility. It's a safety issue and last I knew Lowes was pretty keen on safety. Company's have to change in order to survive. It's that simple. If your let go because of it just accept it and move on. There is nothing you can do. I've been through it before. Find another job and live your life. Stroke the furry wall. Google Kubler-Ross model. I'm not trying to be a d--k but it is what it is. Just my 2 cents.....

All drivers at our store were informed that the new delivery "strategy" is to eliminate all driver positions come the end of August.

We can be rehired after last day as day one new employee. So guys with more than 15 years of dedicated service get raped of all seniority.

Any driver knows that the long days are not just because of the so called delivery. They come from removing old appliances, from taking apart customer homes to fit appliances in the house, from ASMs telling customers we will move a fridge to the garage or basement, from selling items not in stock (ICBs), from flatbed loads not being pulled, from driving 40 minutes between deliveries because of the next day promise, from over riding and overloading the trucks. But go ahead and blame the drivers who rarely even get a chance to take a real lunch break and go ahead and believe that this eliminating us will change anything. It will change. It's going to s--- for the customer. Because we really tried very hard to take care of our customers but apparently "good customer service" and helping them " love where they live" is all b---s---. The real credo should be to do the least amount possible and increase profits at all costs and sell, sell, sell.

All of region 4. Why would they only do some. Is this a test to see how it works out? The ax will fall for all regions eventually. I don't get it. Customer service will go down the tubes. I know the drivers that were kept are happy but, does anyone think it is right to keep some, when we all work hard.

All you folks that did not get let go. It will happen. Home Depot and Menards do it. They are giving the raises just to get it calm, to give you a false sense of security. To keep you quiet so you won't protest or freak out. It is going to be company wide. Don't be fooled. A few months ago a driver at our store asked store manager if he thought they would ever out source, the reply was Never Happen. Well guess what.

"The store I work at, drivers are getting raises and ssei bonuses will now be same as sales specialists"

Clearly this person was lying. This site is full of cheerleading trolls. Don't put it past any company to hire trolls to do this kind of stuff, it's cheap and effective.

Clearly the person crying about trolls didn't do his research before commenting because I am not a troll, I have been a driver since 2001. Better go get your GED fag bomber
