Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Delivery Drivers let go today?

Anyone else hear that ALL delivery drivers were let go today, and that Lowe's is switching to a third party flat bed company? One service manager was walking around saying this at around 3pm today, and all ASMs and HR were in SM's office.

Lowes in north Little Rock went third party on its delivery crew. Told us 2 weeks before the start day of the 3rd party. Told us to apply for other positions in the store. None of us got interviews for those positions. We were told we could work somewhere else in the store or take a severance pay. We didn’t get placed in another position in the store nor has anyone received the severance pay.

I worked for lowes 5 months doing box deliveries, they went 3rd party and I joined the 3rd party delivery service and excelled immediately. Those guys taught me how to knock out 15 deliveries and be home at 3p.m .Sh---y employees are scattered abroad but the crew that I'm with in NC are all expert delivery men. No claims no damages and deliveries are getting done more efficiently than lowes in my area were doing them.

I guess that's why I paid $1300 for a playset and didn't receive but two boxes. I've emailed and called residential direct, and they could care less. I'm returning the swingset. I'll buy one local where I know I'll get the parts. It's been three weeks now.

My husband worked for Lowes as a delivery driver for over 30 years and he was damn good at his job. People would come into his store and request that he deliver their appliances. If he was out on vacation, they would wait for him to return. The other drivers on his team were stellar also. They understood the importance of customer service. They were the last ones that the customers experienced in their transaction. The care, time and attention they gave the customers was a main reason that the customer returned and referred others to Lowes. Return customers are the life and blood of any successful business. Lowes made the grave mistake of letting their delivery teams go for 3rd party delivery teams. These guys don't seem to get the basic concepts and importance of customer service. The complaints are through the roof now. The ultimate insult has been seeing these 3rd party drivers in Lowes box trucks drive around the city with trash stacked up in the interior windshield. They look dirty and to the customers, they represent Lowes. Customers don't care that they are 3rd party delivery drivers. They associate their delivery service to Lowes and rightfully so. I am a real estate agent. I used to be able to send my clients to Lowes with the confidence that they would get great service from purchase to delivery. Now, if I even mention Lowes, clients will stop me mid sentence and say they no longer patronage Lowes because of their last horrible experience with delivery. Lowes has the nerve to ask my husband to go out and fix the messes that the 3rd party has made because managers are getting cussed out by outraged customers. Lowes...you should be ashamed by how you have treated the people who have been loyal to you! Your delivery teams and your customers deserved better!

Lowes told all the drivers of box trucks, and hotshots, basically all non cdl that they have 2 options leave the company or stick around taking a huge pay cut and a position as a csa, No pissibilities for becoming a sales specalist, and no choice in where they put you within the store, all while the pandemic is already making people struggle, reducing the amount of people purchasing through lowes, reducing their hours, then just cutting the position so they could save money by not paying for benefits. To lowes its cheaper to hire someone else to third party deliveries, than it is to pay your own employees benefits

Lincoln lowes drivers got the boot offered a much low paying job on nights. After DSI came in it's been nothing but a train wreck. 1st day filled up the truck with 20 appliances and a riding mower nothing is strapped down so the mower is playing pin ball in the back with the fridges, washer, dryer etc. Customers start calling the store about damaged appliances and even the mower was brought back.. it hasn't gotten any since actually worse each day. Looking forward to Mondays carnage. They lost a ton of customers.

Just had back end appreciation week last week, now we're being told we can get 2 weeks severance pay or accept a position in the store for $3 less an hour. They wont even tell us the name of the company replacing us either.

Most managers with Lowe's are punks. They will eat sh– smile and lie.If one tells you the truth the get reprimanded. Its all about numbers forget helping and getting the job done.I like a few of them but usually they run off hard working employees. They love b—s— lazy employees especially if they are in one of minority groups gotta love Lowe's.For most of them it's a social scene. You can bust your a– while others watch and they will do nothing like I said punks.

THird party delivery agencies are a necessary evil because big box retailers don’t want to pay overtime, or benefits. Third party teams are given twice the amount of stops, because they don’t have to worry about overtime or OSHA guidelines. It’s more cost effective, but they are given twice the work and do it... when store teams would not. These guys are normally paid per day, no matter how many stops they are given. With Home Depot they average 18-24 per day. Also not every LOWES uses the same Third party logistics agency. For instance the agency LOWES uses in Colorado is not the same one they use in Tennessee. Customer service doesn’t suffer anymore than when store teams were doing deliveries. These delivery agencies have there own routers, dispatch, billing dept, and management team. Using third party services like this allows the big box retailers to sell double the inventory they could before, because they now have double the capacity. I have worked in 3PL appliance delivery for 5 years and my location (not LOWES) is the third in the nation for NPS (a scoring system used by big box retailers to measure metrics). Were not all bad. If you really want to make some money become a third party contractor. Get your own truck and run your own team. You will make 200,000 or more a year. Or if your not willing to own your own business, try and get on with one of the third party contractors that has trucks already running there. You just need to be able to obtain and DOT card and pass a background test. In my market drivers make $180 a day, with most locations running 5-6 days a week. Which means you could potentially make between $900-1,080 per week, something I can guarantee you were NOT making working as an hourly driver for LOWES. Just throwing that out there. There is money to be made in the logistics industry my friends, go out and get it!

Some districts, used to be called markets, have been 3rd party for awhile. It is the worst. It helps cut cost from store side but customers are the ones that suffer from it. If you think differently, ask the hallowed contractor that Lowe's is groveling to come back. We will earn your business but sorry we can't get your delivery out because our driver isn't going to make it to our store today. SORRY!

I live in Orlando Florida and my entire delivery department got laid off and told we had until the end of the month. We got told they had spoken to the 3rd party delivery company about hiring some of the Lowes drivers, turns out that was a lie, they said they had no idea what they were talking about. I worked 10 years as a delivery driver, our team was like a family. Many times after arriving at the store we would have deliveries added and we would do them only to be yelled at for overtime afterwards. All the guys would look at vacations and coordinate so the store wouldn't get f---ed over. After being told we were let go we saw the manager taking pictures with the new 3rd party drivers, that really stung!! They don't care, we were just nothing to them

Well DSI Inc. may be delivering for Lowes, Home Depot and other big box stores, but their service is awful... Between the amount of damage they cause to items they were suppose to delivery, damage to customers property, late or missed deliveries...this must be a customer service nightmare. You may be saving cost on the delivery front end, but the loss of customers good will, potential law suits and customers just going somewhere else, well your taking a loss on the back end.

As a customer who was a "victim" of this new delivery company Lowes hired, I am floored that they wouldn't keep their deliveries in-house. Lowes used to be our preferred store to do business because of how great the customer service was, from the store personnel to the delivery staff. I hope they bring ALL of you back, and realize that this was an absolutely horrible idea. The outsourcing/subcontracting thing might be cheaper, but at what cost? Losing the company's great reputation, chasing customers away because they're being treated horribly by an operation who doesn't know the first thing about customer service? Smooth, Lowes. Real smooth. I hope you all are doing well and have found employment where you feel valued, appreciated, and are compensated well for your work.

Our store has an excellent delivery team. Extremely low damages, almost none. We have been numbe one in our market for cost per delivery for two years. And that cost is substantially lower than what third party is to be paid. Doesn't matter. We were all very happy doing the crazy crap that ASMs ignorantly promised customers as well as just trying very hard to simply just take care of them. Doesn't matter. We suffered through the aggravation of associates not doing their own jobs and getting no results from department managers or ASMs to change anything. So many things affected us negatively but we just got over them and made it happen. It's ok. We are all finding jobs pretty easily. Who really suffers? We know who.
