Give it a rest. I've worked with plenty of lazy white guys and I'm a white guy. I've worked with chip on their shoulder white ladies and then crazy efficient and workaholic white ladies as well. I've worked with amazing whites and blacks and losers of all races and genders.
I think the common thread with those who are just flat out not as good is the concept of entitlement. Does the person allow a sense of entitlement impact their work. That feeling of entitlement can happen for various reasons:
-
Age and experience (I've been here a long time so I deserve blah blah blah).
-
Race or gender (I know they need me regardless of how I perform)
-
Education (my education is better or cost more so I deserve to be treated better)
-
Who you know (I can afford to do less because my friend.family member, etc. will never fire me)
-
Union affiliation (I can take the company for granted because they can't fire me unless I really screw up)
What I'm saying is this is not a race thing, a male vs female thing, a union vs non-union thing. There are good and bad in each group. I have seen amazing union folks and lazy non-union. I've also seen the opposite.
It all boils down to entitlement. If you feel that some rules don't apply to you for any reason, then you are part of the problem.
