Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

UK WFR

Well, I got WFRed today in the UK. I am so happy about it. I started out with EDS and got great terms for my severance. Happy to leave now with this package than hang around and get stiffed with statutory in a few months once the CSC bean counters have a look at the HR policies! Best feeling I've had in 15 + years with this company. If you get the chance, grab it!

No VRs in ANZ yet. Seems the ex-UXC folk are leaving in sufficient numbers that it's been put off indefinitely. Can't say I blame them. From what they've said, they've gone from a well run, rewarding organisation to the polar opposite.

Applied a week ago for the 3rd of August round, no communication back yet other than an automated mail saying it had been received.

Has anyone in the UK requesting VR during the latest round (closed August 3rd) received any response (accepted/declined)?

Same here. A blessed relief. My wife was more bothered than I was and only then because I did the two calls at home so she could hear just how cold and scripted the whole process was. 30 years service and absolutely no recognition of that.

As others have said. It matters not, it's good to be out.

OP, I went in March on UK WFR, I was quietly pleased, I couldn't have taken much more. Good luck for the future, you won't regret leaving such an awful company!

OP here. Sorry for the delay. It's been a busy few days. I know the VR window is (was?) still open, but I didn't go through VR... I was told I was going so it was a CR effectively. I had applied for VR previously and didn't get it, so this was good news!! I struggled to hold back the pure joy as my manager was telling me he was sorry that he had to let me go. I felt like hugging him!

Cutting redundancy is something that could be done if they wished it. The problem with doing it is that you will struggle to attract new talent going forward.

Who wants to go work for IBM these days? That's right, nobody.

@3nju

How many IBM staff bothered contesting it? Very few. They do it to a small number to test the water, set the precedent and away they go with a bigger batch next time. I think you over estimate the willingness of people to kick up a fuss. The unions represent very few of us these days, largely because we've bought the Thatcherite nonsense that we don't need to be organised and that Unions are intrinsically bad. They aren't.

I don't wish it anyone. least of all myself, but I think it is extremely naïve to think slashing payoffs is not an option they won't explore at some point.

@3xus

You're right - DXC COULD change redundancy packages to statutory minimum a la IBM but for some reason have chosen not to; perhaps it would not be cost-effective to contest the many inevitable Industrial Tribunals that would result should they decide to pay statutory minimum for redundancy

payments.

@2rps

I am sorry but you are wrong. If IBM can do it then so can DXC.

IBM now pay statutory minimum. They used to pay out various packages. Even the CIvil Servants deal has changed for the worse.

The old EDS deal changed gradually.

Anyone that thinks they are onto a sure thing with their pre DXC deal is very naive.

Despite the prospect of short term unemployment -just be glad to escape from d---s that just don't care about their employees. Take the WFR and run for the hills.

Package won't change for ex-EDS. It can't under UK employment law. Customs and practice. That's why they have about 10 different redundancy packages. Don't be surprised to see them targetting those on the cheapest terms

Ditto on below posts. What was the gap between application and getting the news? Seems strange that the window is still open and you have an answer already....

@uja

I went in March too after 33 years. Took me about 30 seconds to get over it. Cash in the bank, a lump sum for my pension and I found s new job within the month.

Best thing that could have happened and no mention of the car crash that is DXC to blemish my CV.

I got finished in March with eighteen years in, on EDS Terms, happy with it really, it was time to go. HP and its successors were appalling. Good luck OP for the future, and all the very best to those that need to stay.
