Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Annual performance reviews replaced with talent profile

From what I've heard, Oracle has officially discontinued its annual performance review process. Given that (1) many people haven't received them with any consistency and (2) the review seemed totally disconnected from job security, advancement or compensation, it really isn't much of a loss. IMO, it is just a bigger part of making it easier to get rid of people as there will no longer be a paper trail for an employee to use as an argument for an unfair or discriminatory firing/layoff.

The replacement to the review process is the talent profile. Everyone is supposed to use HCM to state their skills, achievements, etc. so that management can "help with career development, team training, etc." Yes, this isn't a review at all and is just a matrix/document for each employee to maintain. Translation: This is yet another data point in HCM that will be used to create layoff lists. If you are looking to keep your job at Oracle for a while, put in some effort on creating a compelling talent profile.

Appraisals have always been org specific. Some orgs track the completion rate closely, others don't care. Compensation changes (incl options) are entered in Comp Work end, where you get to enter the rating again. Can be completely different from Appraisal. There are usually rules coming down from above about how many 4s and 5s you can have, so just because someone got a 4 in the appraisals doesn't mean they also get one when if matters. Completely stupid.

The HCM Cloud profile thing was something they pushed last year, at least in my org. People found that this awesome new HCM implementation was utterly confusing. I doubt that anyone has updated it since then. Or even looked at it. Waste of time.

talent profile was there for years, only then was hidden and now its official. I guess the duplication in software comes with a cost line and is newly identified as cost cutting target.

layoff selection for SC is based on SCTA, overtime and survey results.

layoff selection for sales rep is percentage of quota, (on premises still counts) even though you don't get comped on it. S---ing in sales is the new standard, so no worries if you work for the peanuts your base pays you.

Do not forget that these profiles are like a Trump cabinet meeting, this is your chance to publicly profess your admiration for MH

So in other words, oracle is not even pretending that layoffs are somehow related to performance anymore. I guess they decided that having an official track record of performance reviews would work against them in court so they just got rid of the reviews.

If the previous software did not work out, why the replacement will work?

Reviews were just for namesake over the years anyway (your future either way is already decided upon) and now that has been made official.
