Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Friday meeting?

Anyone else get a 30 minute mandatory meeting with Manager this Friday? I hope this is a joke, if it is its not funny. I am not in HW or anything Sun related. I am in pre-sales. Too scared to call my manager... my hands are shaking.

Pretty sure you cant layoff someone whilst they are on maternity leave.

It is also very hard to layoff someone who is on FMLA. I know one person who did this and it bought them a lot of time.

You should tell your manager you just got a request to book travel. If he tells you that there is a travel ban or you see your vacation zeroed out, you're toast. You can also get notified by Fedex that you have a package coming. That would be another sign.

I know one person who knew they were getting RIF'd and they filed for FMLA and were able to hold it off for awhile.

Stop worrying, update your LinkedIn profile, update your resume, and start applying for outside positions. I got contacted by a recruiter just after updating LinkedIn in May, and now I have another job where I make more money and am much happier. The layoff-of-the-month thing is too stressful and painful. Oracle is going down the dumper, and those of us on the inside know it. Get out while other companies are hiring. Life is too short. Find another job.

just ask your manager straight up. my manager and I discuss the layoffs all the time, and we help each other find connections/jobs.

you are both on a sinking ship, drop all formalities and help each other

You can use the beehive check availability function to see if your manager has more 1/2 hr slots that day. On last Tuesday there could be a slot that indicates a HR layoff training he/she followed to do the layoff calls on Friday.

To the original poster, I don't know for sure what that meeting means, but I wanted to tell you I'm sorry...I'd be upset too.

I believe 30 minutes is usually the time recommended in the layoff training. Also if the meeting was for something other than a layoff, I'm sure the purpose wouldn't be a mystery.

Maybe if you ignore it he will go away.

Best advice ever! Sadly I think the manager's sole purpose these days is to ensure everyone under them gets laid off in a neat an orderly fashion. So you will be gone before he is.

Still I wonder if you had sick leave and could not be contacted... perhaps for several weeks and you outlasted your manager... like maternity leave... I wonder if that would work.

Pretty sure you cant layoff someone whilst they are on maternity leave.

I was laid off June 1. Same thing happened. Only it was the day before... not three days. Pretty sure its unrelated.

Practical jokes are not funny... used to be able to telnet to port 23 and send mail... I'm sure its been locked down... check the meeting invite for mistakes...
