Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

To those laid off

Will you ever support the brand in any way again? I'm not sure if it's an initial anger but I want to literally burn all my Nike gear. I won't but I just can't see myself or my family ever buying the swoosh again.

To those who were layed off I am sorry - over my career I have been let go many times because of the eonomy. . I hope that you find something something new that will fulfill you - it is hard when you work hard and them get told well we don't need your services anymore - I know I have felt this too but I have always either gone back to school or just kept my head above water . Stay strong and know their is life outside the NIKE culture - wishing you the best - stay positiveNI

My wife was let go after 36 years, her only adult job. Retirement just started a year early. Sorry to see her go, she loved working there. We'll still wear Nike, it's good stuff. I guess since we're set financially from saving and investing, along with a decent severance package, we're in a better position than some others. Good luck to all those who were laid off. Sorry it ended this way.

I truly am sorry for those who didn't make it through the layoffs. Unfortunately, it s---s and there isn't a lot that people can say to make it feel better right now. True, you can burn your Nike stuff in a big bonfire, but that won't really help. No one can really blame Nike, layoffs happen. The market s---s, consumers are not shopping like they used to and Nike took too long to respond to the market. The one thing you can blame them for is their inability to treat employees like humans during the layoff process. It should not have taken an entire summer to figure out who was staying and who was leaving. By making it a long drawn out process they showed they don't put employees first. Not only should it not have taken the entire summer once they knew who was leaving there is no reason it needed to take a week to notify everyone. To keep everyone on their toes for 3 damn days was ridiculous and a waste of time. Think about the productivity they lost for the people staying. Now employees are expected to bounce back from this cluster of a week and act like everything is fine? All while knowing their company doesn’t value them or view them as an asset. I hope leadership can figure out that their people are their biggest asset. On the bright side, Adidas is hiring and they will have some highly-qualified people to select from.

I was let go a couple months ago after about 30 years, I take it personally and will never wear nike or any sub brands they own. Neither will my family.

I've been part of mass layoffs in about every job since college. It hurts, it stings, and you feel rejected. However, you should know if you're a good worker and if it's just bad luck/timing. Personally it's job security or lack thereof that I fear. The people recently laid off, will be able to collect unemployment and hopefully have a good support system. It s---s, but not end of the world. 3-6 months from now you should have that new and better job. You can't fully blame a company that rarely fires people having to do mass layoffs. Managers/directors need to fire people who clearly s--- at their job and put little effort to improve. Plus, the market, technology, consumers are all changing and causing the company to react.

It's never easy. Seems like Nike's been hit with the perfect storm. Some saw it coming, some held on hoping it passes and others were blindsided.

Wish everyone the best in their next adventure(s). It'll work out!

I left Nike a few years ago and it was actually very refreshing to wear other brand shoes and apparel.

Yes, I'll still be able to wear it. I don't really take it personally.

That said, the truth is before I started at NIKE I wore more Adidas bc they're more comfortable and stylish for a Friday night out, so I wasn't a huge customer before.
