Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Smartphones continue to grow and x86 is stagnant

Too bad PSO said no, or Intel would be making cellphone processors and likely for a few other manufactures instead of just a partial supplier for the fruit company

Which companies now fuel and rule semiconductors ain't Intel they are passed by by the ARMy

Intel's BMI is not for low margin fields, as it is fat slow and can only live off of it's PC monopoly in clients and servers. Mobile is where Intel invests and plays defense, to raise the bar for players like Qualcom who are forced to seek ways out of their commodity markets with diminishing margins. That is why Qualcom is investing in servers and PC with Microsoft Windows.

One of Intel's main technical monopoly is x86 and I have to say now Genie is out of the bottle as number of companies have now very good efficient x86 emulation on ARM using binary translation, which can produce very competitive performance even in full BT, while in mixed mode is even better. Just look at Qualcom, with Microsoft running full Windows and Eltech's ExaGear enabling to run x86 on Raspberry Pi and number of other ARM platforms with good performance. Instead of out-innovating and outsmarting, Intel is reacting very slow and only shoot is legal warning, which might buy some time but won't stop proliferation of this attack from number of various companies.

Check out TSMC stock price, they doing pretty well versus INTC and TSM

You either an employee getting your 2% focal and RSU and watch it do nothing... yeah great argument.

BTW iPhone 8 will outsell all x86 next year

So what would be so great about making smartphone processors? It's an extremely low-margin business. There's a reason why the number of companies in this business has shrunk so rapidly.

In the low end, it's a commodity business dominated by cheap chinese suppliers. In the high end, Qualcomm is the only company that can make money out of this. And it's not a lot of money compared to what Intel makes from server processors.
