Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Possibility of negotiating severance terms

I would assume that the terms are standard and non-negotiable for the severance...but I thought I'd go ahead and ask about this anyway - I guess it does not hurt to define/clarify this as well.

Did anyone try to negotiate some different terms? For health care, COBRA prices, or end date, or equipment, or anything else?

Yesterday I checked my vacation balance to see if I was on 'the list'. The balance was not zeroed out. To day I went to check again, and the link to the place you check is gone. How weird is that? Is this a candidate for the weirdest layoff ever?

Unless you have some exceptional leverage, any law suite would not be worth it. You would risk your severance payment and any legal costs would likely outweigh any settlement.

You only have leverage if you have proof of illegal activity and want to be a whistleblower like Blackburn and others who got a huge settlement I'm sure. They will then pay you to be quiet. Other than that, you have no leverage and you should just take the package.

Get a good lawyer, dust off the dirt you have on oracle, e.g. how they manufacture cloud revenues and go to down on it. Best of luck to you and may you get very rich extorting LE so he stays out of jail a little longer

"You have no leverage."

I am always amused by articles on the web about how to negotiate a better raise. Again, other than quitting you have no leverage, and even if you do quit, your employer will likely just say "don't let the door hit you on the way out".

Now you're in the process of being fired, and they have no legal obligation whatsoever to give you anything more than your last paycheck and accrued vacation pay. How could you possibly negotiate the severance terms, especially when you have to sign away your right to sue for wrongful termination to get it?

The only other option is not to accept the package and then sue. Good luck with that.

Cannot do it. Period. Tried back in Nov 2016, it was shut down immediately.

You have no leverage.
