Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Confidential Items

I am appalled with what folks are discussing here – there is a lot of confidential Nike information here. This information is proprietary to Nike, henceforth it should not be discussed in a public forum like this. Discussing RIFs in public (or in group setting) is against your terms of employment!!! Discussing severance, pay, or any other details is also prohibited and it should not be disclosed or commented on.

OP, you are insensitive at best

OP, what are you doing here anyway?

We no longer have to perform the 'hind lick maneuver' now that we've been fired. Did you think we'd play nice after the way we were treated?

Maybe you're next for the layoff (firing).

OP unlikely to be an HR Drone (being an ex-HR drone myself) - if he/she was then would see RiF not RIF and never RiFs (WTF is a reduction in force"s") - no one in HR would say Confidential Items either and lastly no one I ever knew would be stupid enough to go on a forum like this, as insensitively timed as this and say the discussions are propriety or prohibited if they are not - one half decent google search exposes the nonsense of it and credibility is immediately toast.

re-reading "should not be disclosed or commented on." is also just stupid because I could be an interested reader who has never been employed by Nike and hence my comments are completely my own business with no legal implication what so ever - I could not even be nabbed as presenting myself as a representative of the company vs posting my own views... Also too inept to be Legal (by a long way) - so guessing either a well meaning intern or someone trying to appear to be what they are not (which would be the saddest truth so hope it's just someone nice but dim) :-)

Really, HR, YOU are appalled? You know what I'm appalled about? Being laid off after being recruited by Nike and leaving a good job for promises that never materialized. The culture is so broken there's no hope of fixing it. Good luck with the people who are left - anyone good will be easily poached. Nike handed their business to UA and Adi on a silver platter. They can take their maxims and shove them up their......

Hilarious. Im sorry the OP feels this way, but maybe its about time the 'real' Nike culture is exposed. Culture is not a mantra, not a dress code or a mission. Its how things are done around here. And how are things done at Nike? I think we all know. Nike knows, all the agencies and vendors know, why else are they not applying to Nike? Im sorry your company is going to be exposed for what it is. Im sorry the communities you work with are going to know the real you. Im sorry your bubble of leverage is diminishing. Im sorry you are not the cool club anymore. Its time you woke up, realized you are an employee, nothing more. There is no 'family', no 'finish line mantra', just a balance sheet and quarterly earnings reports, that, is all you are. When you leave Nike you are going to look for employment with the very people you are not supporting and trying to bully and shut down. Good luck with that, they will remember you.

OP: "Discussing severance, pay, or any other details is also prohibited and it should not be disclosed or commented on."

http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/efte/salary_discussions.html

"...the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has taken the position for decades now that employers may not prohibit employees from discussing their pay and benefits, and that any attempts to do so actually violate the NLRA."

https://www.nlrb.gov/rights-we-protect/whats-law/employees/i-am-not-represented-union/concerted-activity

"Your employer cannot discharge, discipline, or threaten you for, or coercively question you about, this "protected concerted" activity."

Not sure what law would apply to former employees, but if employees are protected then I can't imagine former employees need to worry.

Witty people like folks on this thread is the reason why I stuck with Nike for 22 years (laid off in June) - look at this gem:

I wish you luck sitting in meetings while you nod and agree with whichever clueless VP is regurgitating the mantra he/she has been forced-fed by a self-serving GM and a cloistered, star-f-Ing JM4.

I'm appalled at your use of the word "henceforth." You don't get to treat people like garbage and then demand that they remain silent. That's not how the world works.

People can share their salary and benefits. It's good because it helps root out corruption and abuse. People can share their experiences.

Go back to your office, close the door and think hard about how Nike is treating its employees. Be appalled by that. Talk to your HR colleagues.

"Discussing RIFs in public (or in group setting) is against your terms of employment!!!"

Interesting bit of reasoning there. Tell me, OP, just how can one who's just been laid off violate the terms of employment of a job which they no longer have? Methinks you haven't quite thought this through.

Confidential? Is Nike afraid that any information will give their competitors a layoff advantage? Has Nike developed a proprietary layoff process that they cannot protect with a patent? Will layoffs hurt the stock price? Layoffs usually boost the stock price. Did former employees sign a nondisclosure agreement regarding their future terms of layoff? What a tool you are OP.

BAHAHAHAHAHAH!! Appalled. Probably some HR drone desperately trying to figure out who's posting here. I am appalled at my severance after 15 years and several consecutive Highly Successful ratings. I am appalled at the number of executives who still have jobs despite their lack of leadership. I am appalled at the fact that my career was ended by people who never worked with me. I am appalled at your arrogance, your insensitivity and your petty nature. Enjoy your Keynote culture. I wish you luck sitting in meetings while you nod and agree with whichever clueless VP is regurgitating the mantra he/she has been forced-fed by a self-serving GM and a cloistered, star-f-Ing JM4. Can confirm Nike people have been flocking to adidas recently. Source, I work for adidas. From very senior level employees to former Oregon athletes... people you'd think would never leave Nike for a competitor, but clearly they had a reason for leaving and adidas seemed like a better place. I've worked at both companies and would never work for Nike again, and enjoy going to work with the intent of "beating" Nike. Will adidas truly "beat" Nike, maybe not, but Nike has lead itself into a terrible spot and there are opportunities for other brands to make serious moves.

People are discussing their own situations. Despite what you might have been told, Nike doesn't own its current/former employees.

How are you going to feel when all these very talented people with revenge in mind go to the competition? And trust me the competition wants them. There once was a very loyal culture at Nike, but people have become wise to the new rules of engagement. Loss of loyalty is one of the first critical signs of a changing culture sliding into mediocrity. Maybe you should get out and actually talk to some of the people effected to understand what is really going on.

Discussing pay / severance is prohibited by what? Who does it benefit to not discuss pay and benefits? I'll give you one clue. Not the employees.

My salary and my severance package are not proprietary to Nike.
