Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Do you want to fix Nike?

Bring back all manufacturing to the United States, Period! Get rid off all External Temporary Workers that do not immerse themselves in our culture. For an American company, American workers. Make it an issue of pride. You would be amazed how the world buys an American brand with the American flag in its clothing stating Made in the USA.

For the obese American market, develop a clothing/shoe and accessories from extreme obese to fit. Create a marketing movement to show the transition and a company that backs you all the way.

For the rest of the world, develop products for the Asians, the Africans, the Middle East, the Europeans, etc according to size and preferences.

Stop with the uppity crap/welfare recipient dream shoes like Jordan and so on. Who in the world buys those? You know it. Not you, right? Not me either.

I'm confused, the vast majority of ETW's I worked with were born and raised in the US.

You have got to be kidding me. Who ever wrote this rascist, ethnophobic s--- can go back to whatever country your people came from because THAT bulls--- is unAmerican. And just so we are clear it's a bunch of English speaking dudes who drove this company off the cliff. So how about blaming those guys instead of hardworking people who are just like you and trying to make a decent life for themselves. You are seriously messed up. Unless you are an American Indian - you aren't any more American than anyone else in this country.

Of course Nike could manufacture in the US if they wanted to. It's would just require different thinkers by and a different business model.

I used to work in a department that regularly employed ETW's. Department staff was always professional and treated the ETW's well. However the ETW's were so bent on finding a full-time Nike job that they spent a lot if time networking and having "informational" interviews versus working on projects they were assigned. To the ETW that made comments about elitist FTE - I can promise you that many FTEs are just hard working, brand loyal individuals who witnessed ETW behavior over the years and decided not to engage with you all.

The ones that do not embrace our culture, don't speak English and do not relate to other Americans, send their money overseas, undercut American workers and live in a bubble. Especially the ones where their education is paid by American companies overseas or their governments putting American workers at a disadvantage.

Lol @ the ETW comment. Those ETWs WANT to be full-time Nike employees and would likely love to "immerse themselves" in the Nike culture, but Nike treats them like a number, not a person, so they are not able to immerse themselves in the culture.

It's the arrogance and elitist attitude of full-time employees and the company itself that make most ETWs not able to. I am a former ETW, so I know this first hand, and I could probably get ten other ETWs I've known to agree within minutes.

Maybe the culture is broken because Nike relies so heavily on ETWs that cycle in and out every 12 months. There's no chance to really learn how to drink the Nike Kool Aid. That's not the ETWs fault. That's Nike's decision. Nike relies heavily on ETWs to save money on not paying benefits. Perhaps that decision is biting Nike in the butt now.

CALM DOWN! I am sorry you guys laid off but stop cursing rest of the world. Who are "AMERICANS"? Do you consider people from other countries who are American citizens now as "AMERICANS"? or only those who born here?

I'll start debate only once I've a clear answer.

Taking manufacturing to US would price every single item in a way that it would be impossible to compete. Apple ran an exercise and an US manufactured iPhone would cost several thousand dollars if all pieces were US made. Sorry to burst your bubble but that’s not gonna happen. People already struggle to pay $150 for a pair of running shoes.

"Bring back all manufacturing to the United States, Period" - how would this help? The margins would tank, we would not be able to compete.
