Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Trade Adjustment Assistance TAA program OR Employment Dept

Not sure if this is applicable to laid off Nike, non H1B holders, but you should try and find out the basis (core reason) for the lay off.

Former Intel person here who got the ax last year - over 50, white, +20 years tenure, MBA Finance.

Landed on my feet and am working...but received a letter from the Oregon Employment Department several days ago concerning my potential program eligibility.

"TAA - This was the result of the workers being adversely affected from import competition and/or shifts in production to a foreign country. You have been identified as a worker of this employer"

Some potential benefits - Wage Subsidy for workers 50 and older, Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC), and additional UE benefits because of Trade Readjusment Allowance (TRA).

Who is part of the next losses - what is NIKE doing to do to support those who have made many years of contributions to this company -

Some laid off employees do qualify for Trade Act benefits (which HB1's have nothing to do with) - Nike has an updated potition (relax if you think this is confidential, it's on the internet, its public information). Talk to your unemployment contact about whether your department was covered in the most recent petition. Nike had two on file with the state.

Not applicable but thanks. Maybe some IT folks will find this useful, I am in marketing and not aware of any H1B holders here.
