Oracle has lots more HW groups to get rid of besides just SPARC

ZFSSA Engineering was gutted today, Tape Engineering is on the block for Friday.

You are right @P3nOAFC-dfz, that is still the case.

FS1 was being retained as the in-house NAS/SAN solution for cloud last I heard. That may have changed.

Oracle does use their own x86 systems internally and in the cloud, but there is probably no good reason that they need to continue to build their own systems. I'm sure this is an ongoing debate at the executive level.

Only if products can be used within the Oracle cloud, will they continue to see investment.

Does Oracle use it's own x86 Sun HW to build out it's cloud data center or is it a custom configuration?

@-jhc not correct. Future development of zfssa is over, support for existing customer installations will continue. FS1 is spared. Next-gen FSx will begin installations in Oracle Cloud data centers next month (no external sales for the time being). Support for existing external FS1 customers will continue.

How long until they gut x86 engineering. How long until engineered systems is dead? Things have gotten so desperate that they're now cannibalizing cloud by hitting the SAAS ERP & FUSION APPS team next. OMCS was already hit. They are running out of options.

Everything is over. It's maintenance only. Much of the software has gone into maintenance only. About the only pieces of software that aren't maintenance only are database and Linux. The database will be shifted into cloud. If you want to run the Oracle database on-prem, be prepared to wait a very long time. A customer was trying to upgrade from 11.2 to 12.2 and hit a bug. After months, there is no fix. Why? Because Oracle has laid off all the support people and development resources that know what is going on. The new hire sustaining people have no clue how to fix it. Customers sit there and suffer. Even if they scream loud enough, does Oracle have the people to actually fix it? More and more customers are getting frustrated and all Oracle's answer is cloud cloud cloud. If you were running on the cloud you would get bugs fixed faster. Unacceptable and all because the only thing MH knows how to do is cut cut cut. He doesn't care that customers actually need good support. That isn't his problem.
