Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

The small number of engineers who survived the layoff

Is the plan to keep them for M8 maintainance/ fix issues / etc ..

Or

to leepmtrack of the the IP / patents / transifernof knowledge to a potential buyer

Would Oracle really think it can leave some people to do M8 maintainance without M9 or future projects and expect these people to stay knowing they are hired to finish the task and then get RIFd without a severance!

that's a very engineer-like way of thinking... my baby cpu is so beautiful everyone will buy it.... unfortunately real life is not like this. there is NO WAY an informed customer will buy M8 knowing it is the end of the road. even those with large SPARC IB will move to IBM (if they want to remain with unix) or start a migration to x86.

if ES is thinking that M8 will sell then he is more autistic I thought.

Yeah, I believe all of CAD is gone, incl RM.

No way just a few engineers could sensibly xfer all that IP -- much less patents, which only lawyers can read. The remaining folks must be for maintenance only, and support for that $4B legacy-customer revenue. I'd guess some good people would be willing to stay to make sure M8 deploys successfully because they care about their creation.

The few engineers they kept back should just leave.

Any microelectronics SVPs or VPs spared this round of layoff? e.g. MS=head of ME, RL=Design RM=CAD, SV=Test & Product ...

I know all the rank and files in microelectronics team were axed this time.

"They are going to hire kids out of college to develop the M9."

Yes, and they'll do all the simulations on Arduinos.

They are not looking for buyers. They didn't want to sell it and they cannot sell it because all people are gone. They are not going to do M9 anymore and they cannot do it anymore. You think it is easy to develop a new processor without any legacy development? It will cost more to develop a new processor than continue to finish a existing development. Oracle is done with hardware.
