Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Hiring fresh graduates will not save Oracle

The idea that hiring kids out of college for development is somehow going to cause great things to happen, is completely ridiculous. It's like the management has bought into the stupid stereotype that all you need is some genius kid from college to write the code for you.

Well, they're not geniuses. They're just kids with CS degrees. They know nothing, especially about web development. Web development is often not even a subject that is taught in college. Web developers learn on the job and you can't learn anything in this area at Oracle after coming out of school with a CS degree.

And the few geniuses that might come out of college at a bargain price should be smart enough to avoid working at Oracle. If by some chance they actually accept a job at Oracle, they will be quite literally attacked by the low-life narcissistic incompetent weirdos that control oracle development in the cloud area. Can't have anyone showing any of them up.

There is no way anything will change. It's a huge mess and making clueless PR announcements won't change anything.

Fresh graduates can be useful if they are added to a working development team with management that knows where to put them and how to train them. I would suspect that is the case at Google.

This will never happen at Oracle. Oracle's development management is unbelievably incompetent. When I was there, I just could not believe the sheer stupidity of the decisions made by development managers. I worked for the worst manager I had ever seen there. He had no idea what he was doing.

If oracle could make one change that would really make a huge difference it would be to layoff and replace all development managers, top to bottom, in the cloud area and replace them with new managers hired from other companies with relevant experience.

That would really do a lot. But that won't happen, cause those guys are not going to layoff themselves!

Actually, from my perspective inside Oracle, new college grads are not even allowed to be considered. We only hire more seasoned staff now, just not into the Solaris/Sparc divisions. The whole company has shifted to cloud.

Indian firms who provide low end sweat shop services hire fresh grads and and bundle them with experienced ones.

Now the quality of fresh grads has fallen so bad in India clients are rejecting them. Even as the Indian IT services syndicate led by nasscom is trying hard to layoff seniors and replace them with freshers.

Now a days no one helps freshers in Indian offices as no one trusts managements team here any more.

Yes, @P7sZj6I-cjb, but the difference is that Google's motto isn't "Do Evil, Everywhere and Always."

The formula of hiring nearly only college grads has served a few other companies very well, notably Google.
