Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

No WARN, no bad publicity for Qualcomm

Q is a master at avoiding WARN notice; they will use PIP or voluntary packages to avoid WARN; they just don't want public official layoffs news. They have used this process for decades.

This is what I have noticed in my many years with Qualcomm. They will do everything in their power to avoid WARN, even if it means laying people off slower than they'd like. However, while it does wonders for avoiding bad press, it's creating an atmosphere where everybody feels like they have an axe hanging over their heads all the time. It's affecting morale to the point that I am positive will affect the company adversely sooner or later.

My take is that a company should be as honest with its employees as they hold their employees to be honest with them, since both of their futures are entwined. If you are saying that the company should deceive the employee as a matter of business, what dedication should the employee have to that employer?

Qualcomm does not comply with the same rules as other companie (WARN), so let them battle with Apple who has a huge war chest and has the same sense of not following the rules...

Qualcomm is doing what any other big corp would do..

Trying to save face..

Nothing wrong in it

The employees are not gullible or children

They should be seeing the writing on the wall

Rarely companies admin they are going thru tough times and would lay off people

If you're targeted there is not much you can do about it. Do you really want to work somewhere that doesn't want you anyway? This like trying to stay married to a man who wants the other woman. Can only get worse if you try to make the man be happy married to you. Just get the alimony if you leave LOL

I am all prepared to go if laid off. I started applications in June so hope to have a good job soon. As a caveat it is good to plan 1-2 weeks of ideal pay for the on search. This should be thoughtful process not just reacting to gossip (as much info on this site is unverified gossip) You will make the bad choice if you react rather than respond. If there is layoff this is good secret so do not the worry too much. Plan the good things for YOUR future and you will be fine. Please the crazy people stop scaring the people.
