Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

No expectation of decency

Just received my personal goods from Nike after two months. When I was termed I opted to leave immediately, rather than take the walk of shame (under escort) back to my desk to retrieve my personal belongings. That was a mistake. After many calls to my former manager (who I believed blocked my number) and HR, I finally received a box with my goods. It looked like it was packed with a leaf blower. I kept neat and organized files, work and personal, in my desk. All my papers were just tossed in the box with no folders (I guess they were considered Nike property). On top was my awards, pictures and other stuff. My samples are missing (given to me by my manager). Just looking at the state of my stuff brought back the anger and bitterness I thought I was over. I called HR to complain and was literally read a statement that sounded like it was written by a lawyer. "You have no expectation of privacy at the workplace." Apparently, I have no expectation of decency either.

I'm truly sorry for you, I couldn't agree with you more that there was a void of compassion and human decency in this re-org. Having several co-workers and friends that were let go was pretty terrible and heartbreaking. But adding insult to injury as someone who managed to make it through, sitting there observing the desks of those you lost just sit there as if they were one day coming back was a constant reminder that the family-like culture our company once had is long gone. It was easily 2-3 weeks before anyone came to collect those belongings and crudely package them up.

@PAZUoyv I hope that you've landed on your feet, and found somewhere that's more appreciative of you and your contributions.

Most of my stuff was broken. Boxes were way to big for how much they put inside.

Nike is no longer a cool company. It is Microsoft minus the pleated khakis.

My stuff was sent in an internal moving box and holes where the handles are were wide open. Mugs just thrown in. So surprised nothing broke, as nothing was wrapped. No note or anything. Not a great way to end 21 years. Never even got a phone call from my manager. He was on PTO the day I got let go. Kicked to the curb pretty much sums it up!

Not very many good leaders are left at Nike just managers. They manage people like things. To many who want to move up no matter how they do it or get there. Manage from a place of power.

There are still many good people at Nike but not as many who have ten or more years.

The history is in the process of being lost.

Nike is so disrespectful. This is no way to treat anyone with honor and respect. Do they think that perspective employees don't read, reviews on glassdoor or come here? What a terrible cultural regression at Nike has happened. There was a time when dignity, equality, respect, and teamwork were valued. Now it is every man for himself and who can make the prettiest PowerPoint.
