Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Optum, BPQM, and next up... Operations!

Was rumored today that operations will be the next area affected by layoffs. I hope that isn't the case.

UHG originally had in the neighborhood of 100k employees in the mid 2000's after the depression they went outsource crazy and pushed almost 30% of their staffing to BPM companies like tele-performance, iqor, etc. many of them offshore. Don't expect UHG to do anything for you except show you the door. They will not tell you that the vacation time that you kept putting off because your boss needed you, made you reschedule because of business needs, etc. Well that time which is probably well over 40 or 60 hours. Well since you didn't take it you lose it. Sorry. (Except in CA) I had my boss lay me off 2 weeks before a 2 week vacation! If you have time accumulated you need to take it and use it to get a new job.

@PBHb893-2olt has no clue what they are talking about. Employee numbers have always been above 35k. Obviously hasn't been at UHC long enough to recognize the Travelers, Metlife mergers in the 90's. The irony will be wishing people get "fired" when the layoffs impact their own area.

To @PBHb893-2olt - The CEO you referenced is no longer in that role, As of Sep 1,2017 new CEO, so I'm guessing cuts will help numbers look good to wall street and show that change in leadership does not impact shareholders. Little do they know what was done to employees to get to those numbers. And we have a lot more than 135k employees, according to company fact sheet over 260k, you might want to keep a bit more current with your company.

Ummm UNH is a public company so yes the first obligation of the company is to its owners (the stockholders) people like you who say stupid things should be fired. As for our CEO he has brought this company from 35k employees to 135k. I’d say he is one of the best CEOs in the country. He knows how to grow a business. Enjoy him while he’s here as he isn’t getting any younger
