Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nothing has changed in IT.

Nothing has changed in IT. It is still the same misogynistic, hostile work environment as before only the remaining employees have been cowed into silence. Everyone knows any complaints will cost you your job. The place is a ghost town and most people work from home if they work at all. Everyone just keeps their head down. No one trusts anyone. Managers have their favorites and their informants. They lord over us with the constant threat of layoffs. I plan to leave soon. I haven't told anyone and don't intend to. I meet recruiters well off campus. I certainly don't list any Nike references. I will follow previous advice I read here and quit on a Friday at the end of the day. I will not give any notice, they wouldn't give me any so why should I give them any? In the meantime I just smile and tell my manager how I think the layoffs were a great idea and how much I respect his leadership, just like a good little girl. New job or no, I am gone by January. I was sorry to see the IT thread scrubbed from here. I guess Nike lawyers got to them after all. It may have gotten personal but it was all true, every last word of it and I mean every last word. The truth hurts, especially when a reporter starts nosing around. Funny how the posts disappeared the moment the Oregonian shows interest. I don't believe in justice but I do believe in karma. The men who turned IT into their own little madman world will one day suffer the consequences. No threats here, I'm talking karma, so you little snowflakes who call yourself men can rest easy with whatever bimbo you're sleeping with tonight. Your reputations will follow you and you will not escape the truth. The whole IT world knows Nike IT and knows it's a joke. Every recruiter told me the same and they respect me because I tell the truth. If I sang Nike's praises I wouldn't get in the front door. My best prospect is led by a Nike IT survivor. The stories we shared! I hope it works out but if not, I will find another. I am done with this site but have learned a lot from all of you. Great advice. Move on, live well and God bless you all.

Welcome to toxic Nike Culture 101.

It's Lord of the Flies over there constantly. There was a few other senior departures recently as well, I'm wondering how many are related.

Nike's culture may be total sh--, but they really do hate all employees equally. This isn't an equity issue, Nike does more for women, POCs, and other minorities than almost any other company in Oregon. They're just a horrible culture all around though.

I've only gone to work a couple of times since the layoff... no one has said a word.

I walk through the building now and the place is deserted. There are lights on in some of the manager's offices but all the doors are closed. The CIO and CISO are nowhere to be seen. It feels like the first episode of the Walking Dead. Empty desks as far as you can see. I think they could save money by consolidating everyone left into half of one building. Maybe that's the plan. Not everyone was fired. I don't think people are working from home, I think they just stopped showing up. I didn't show up on monday and no one said a word. No one was there to say a word. I'm taking this friday and monday off. I want to see how far I can stretch this. I want to work but there is nothing to do. Like others who posted here I am planning my exit. There are plenty of good jobs out there for people who want to work. I wonder how long it will take someone to notice when I leave? This used to be such a vibrant and exciting place. Now it's a graveyard. Fear the walking dead. Sad.

Yep. Tech morale is lower than ever right now. I have been to three retirement parties since the layoffs. All three of them were retiring from Nike not from the workforce. The message I got was It’s just not worth putting up with all the BS.

In Marketing but have a few good friends in HR and IT . Agree it’s true . Everyone knows but hush hush . Lots of beta about who and why promoted. And swallowing the kool aid gets one brownie points .

By the look of these posts, the good people are leaving and the only ones left will be the sycophants and those who are only there to collect a paycheck. My new job has taught me the risks to Nike are greater than I appreciated when I was one of the faceless minions at CIS. Nike IT leadership does not invest in its people and has no interest in their future. They fail to see the company's and the employee's futures are inexorably linked. People will leave their guard down, stop caring, stop working, or even worse, sabotage the network on their way out the door with a pocket full of USBs loaded with company data. This is when network breaches happen. This is how intellectual property is lost. This is how great companies fail. Anyone listening or have all the good people left already?
