Do you lay the wreath at PSO's feet for the sale of X-Scale to Marvell? If I recall those times, there were many in the IA "Deep State" who despised Itanium as much as ARM. Heck even getting 64-bit was like pulling teeth.

Likewise, did Marvell become an industry titan from the acquisition?

Unfortunately, Intel enforces and reinforces a "square peg will fit into round hole" mentality. It works so long as your org executes. Once your technical advantages disappear however, you are toast.

I predict a breakup in the next 3-4 years to unlock shareholder value. It will be an agonizing grind until then while organization tensions make decision making grind to a halt.
