“Massive” defined as historic even for GE. GE is always planning on layoffs. This one will be remembered for many years as one of the largest ever for GE. Layoffs are in GE’s standard business model.

Layoffs should be about deadweight. The problem with GE layoffs is that it’s about who is the manager’s or technical leaders best buddy. Buddies are protected and classified as essential while other dedicated productive workers get the ax. So, it’s best to go to everybody’s private parties and practice your brown nose tactics in order to survive. Better yet, get out of GE as soon as you can. It’s not worth it. Layoffs will always be coming even if you survive this one.

Look we need to get rid of all the deadwood dragging us down. Then there's the unproductive, the shirkers, the difficult to get on with and the maladjusted. We can't carry unnecessary baggage.
