Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Now everyone hates Nike?

Reposting prior post ...

While I can understand the anger now it seems that everyone and their mother are angry at Nike. Everyone says it is a horrible place to work, that H1Bs are taking over, no real knowledge in upper management and so on...but, what did you do to fix this? Did you talk to someone about all this? If lack of innovation was hurting the business what did you do to help?

It seems like while money was flowing everyone was happy with their cups of coffee sitting in their laptops moving PowerPoint decks from one place to another in endless meetings or conference calls with all geos asking for recaps. Now that an era has ended everyone is complaining. Layoffs s--- but also being part of the problem. We are all accountable for this and now we have to fix this, consumer in mind not make the ppt pretty in mind.

Nike is terrible at assessing talent. Strategy is valued over actually doing things. Even if something works it needs to go through a transformation. This slows us down and hurts our morale.

I work at Nike too and everyone in my group is closely following the conversations that are happening on this site.

I hope a few of you reach out to the reporters. I'd like to see as someone else said...some changes at the top.

Specifically...Global Brand GH, Global Brand DS, COO ES, TE...

Who did I tell? No one wants to listen, all more worried about putting together fancy decks to impress leadership and move up the chain. No one cares about the consumer, the people who have all the real information are not getting paid or respected by the higher ups. Give me a break.

It says everything about the state of this company when a director has to post ideas on an anonymous website in order to be heard.

@dle hit the nail on the head. Many people, myself included, pushed back on a lot of these things and you just get labeled as not being a team player. Thankfully I decided to leave a little while ago and I’m much happier.

I still work at Nike...and in my experience of working there for almost 7years is that...there are those that focus on nailing projects and making moments matter vs. those younger folks that are solely concerned about building their resume and posting on IG or Snap. I am a director in brand on one of the larger categories and I see far too many people being promoted without any experience. I see how this affects morale. I see how poor workers are moved into new jobs, b/c managers do not manage with courage. I see how people simply don't even do their jobs and yet there is no re-course...yet we just laid off some of the most hard working and smartest people.

IMHO...here's what needs to change...

  1. Stay in your damn lane. Sales, Global, etc.

  2. Make the current project the best it needs to be vs. being worried how to post this on your social media.

  3. Stop promoting personalities vs. professionals. Cool does not equal Confidence.

  4. Let categories be the experts to own the message to their consumers. Stop dumbing everything down.

  5. Stop Brand Design from wasting time, money, and resources. Add value...not job security.

  6. Eliminate the Marketing Operations team. They don't add any value or vision. Taking notes and keeping a calendar is not moving the needle.

  7. Product teams...get us better product with better stories to tell. Where's the innovation for performance?

  8. Stop wasting time talking to each other and focus on what the consumer wants. Do research. Ask questions.

  9. Reward employees more often for going above and beyond. L Band. U Band. A Band.

  10. Change JM4 leadership...specifically the boyz club. COO?! Remember that we still can't even ship the right product out of the DC. WTF are you doing?

Rant over.

Back to my email and deck.

You might be reposting but your not reading. Stated in numerous threads is fact that you have to conform here. If you suggest change it is perceived as not being a part of the team or the vision. Very few people can get away with challenging leaders with ideas. Nike is terrible at assessing talent. Strategy is valued over actually doing things. Even if something works it needs to go through a transformation. This slows us down and hurts our morale.
