relo payback?

Howdy,

I relocated to California to work for Intel but in less than 1 year I went back to NC. According to their relo contract, I should have paid back the lump amount Intel paid me as relo allowance, prorated. I didn't, and when I asked HR they sent me to my manager who sent me to the HR... It's been 5 months already since I quit and still not a sign about this... I mean, Christmas is approaching fast, so how long should I hold the money allocated for a payback which seems to never be requested? :) Anyone in the same situation? Is this something common at Intel? :)

in the past I've known managers to just say "man, so I have to do paperwork, and you loose some fractional amount of money, lets just not worry about it."

I'd just document you made an effort and let it lay for a while... but I wouldn't go spend the money either for a year or two.

Tell them to get lost. It's severance. ;-D

Hire an employee attorney to review your situation. Most attorneys work on a contingency so they only get paid if you do

OP here. LOL I'm not a diversity candidate and didn't get any hire bonus, only the relocation allowance which was substantial given the distance. Thank you all.

Errrrr.... you do NOT want that going to collections. Persist, and document every communication you have in this space. I am amazed HR hasn't been more receptive.

No need to worry because worst case they will have a collection agency handle it and worse case if you don't pay, it will affect your credit. Do not pay it back.
