Just got off the phone with the boss in BR... big layoff coming in November. Revenue decline more acute than expected in 3Q. Hans converging teams, wants to clear the deck, so lots of VPs and Directors hit as well. Off the books by early December. Merry X-Mas!

They RIF'd cell techs in 2015, and things are more desperate now to increase the bottom line.
Doubtful. The cell operation techs are probably some of the most valuable employees the company has. There is no way they could afford to RIF that group.

Spoken like a true Ops Tech. ATT, TeMo and Sprint made it through the same natural disasters as big red did...just with a quarter of the staff/OpEx.

No call outs and no OT in ‘17 was the beginning, plan on a substantial workforce reduction soon. Now lay off the wacky weed and get prepared. Resume, business networking, save $$, personal debt reduction, certifications, education, etc.

I want what he is smoking...Are you kidding? The layoff's were planned months before any disaster...promises were made...now its time to produce the savings they so desperately need to keep stock prices up and pay off the bloated management salaries and bonuses.
There is no way there will be any layoffs especially with the recent natural disasters. They need every employee they have and I would imagine they will start boosting employment.

Operations...management team had a meeting recently discussing how do divvy up the workload with less staffing.
Our team was informed on our staff call this week. The number of cuts is still unknown, but it will be a very large hit.
Morale is so low, a layoff would be seen as a blessing to some who are near the severance cap for years of service. The organizational culture used to be one of the great things about working for this company, now it's just poison.
Just from past history with Verizon, I don't doubt there will be layoffs around the 1st part of November. Verizon lays off all the time, some small, some large like the 5000+ in November 2015. I was impacted by that RIF. I keep in contact with former Verizon coworkers and I am sure I will hear something if layoffs do happen...

Retail is untouchable? Are you joking? They are closing stores or converting them to AR's all over the place. Stores are no longer profitable. They were up until about 3 years ago but those days are long gone.

Correct. Retail is untouchable. Verizon is making money hand over fist off their stores and the specialists there are making far paychecks. Slight downturn this year but nothing to fear.
Retail is totally safe right? My store just got a new manager and she said we are all going to have jobs for a very long time. We are slow and not hitting quota but as long as we are trying the behavioral coaching can’t touch us.
Not wanting to be outdone by Sprint, VZW will probably follow Sprints last package of 1 week for every year of service would be my guess.

Whenever they announce a new program to help employees adapt to change so their careers can advance you know the rif is right around the corner. The "change energizes us" BS coming from leadership happened last time also.

Blow up some balloons and put the Verizon tent in the parking lot. Balloons and tens means exciting things are happening at the store and customers will come in droves and buy 50 HUMS each!
Activity, revenue, and observations about retail store personnel and staffing are all separate items. While retail was once the king of the hill, more and more activity is being driven to digital. And that's by design. Stores are becoming more irrelevant, don't judge the future solely by what you see there.
I drove by a VZW store at lunch time today...4 people in the store...3 sales people and one washing the windows. Guess which one was actually doing something? He did a really good job on the windows.
This will be fun to watch from the outside.
I can only speak for wireline side. Deep drop in fios subs this qtr. Lowell will highlight next week. Some rumors he may announce plans to retire.

What high demand wireless service are you talking about. The retail vzw stores are empty most of the time. The service customer that is walking in to store are not buying anything. The new customers that do come are already know what offers vzw has and are playing hard ball post and even prepaid. It's had making the quota.

Odd considering revenue is actually on the rise. Amazing what offering competitive products will do for the income statement.
