Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How many days does it take to recieve severence papers following termination date?

My termination date will be October 31 (Tuesday), does any one have past experience with receiving papers from Oracle following 6--day WARN period? How long does it take? Do they send it out on 31st via Fedx and so available to me by the next day or two or at least by Oct 3rd (Friday)? Or is this something takes snail mail to arrive a week later?

Any information one can share would be useful. I know those who were not lucky to get WARN notice got everything immediately and so my question is mainly for those on WARN notice. If you had to gone through WARN notice recently then please share your experience.

Appreciate if someone can elaborate on

  • COBRA logistics and timeline as well, to avoid gap in coverage. I understand that Oracle will pay for one month of COBRA beyond termination date, specifically till end of Nov, for those who got WARN notice effective 1st Sep and the termination date is end of October.

  • What is better : COBRA or ACA/Obamacare (covered California) : for member + spouse OR

member + spouse + a child ?

  • If Obamacare, how does one get dental and/or vision coverage ?

I was laid off @ 9am and got the FedEx package by noon. Would have been funny if I had called in sick and the package came to my house without knowing I was canned.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. It sounds like papers will be here on 31st or a day here and there for me to sign and I can plan my travel over weekend. Of course it may not always work the same way in each case and so i need to take that into account.

I got mine on the day of termination itself, FedEx should deliver the envelope on your last day of employment. You will have 4 or five pages (a duplicate for you to keep), they release pages basically say that no matter how abused you were, you will not and cannot sue Oracle. Sign and date the last page and mail back in the provided Oracle envelope. That's it.

Thanks for the reply. I am more concerned with receiving papers and returning them in time. I have upcoming travel comings and I want to make sure that I am able to sign all the papets to them in time before this travel.

You will get a set of papers to sign. It then takes approx 7 days to process that (legal requirement in case you back out on signing away your rights to sue.). Overall the process should take a couple weeks til you get whats left of your severance minus the warn calculations.

If you're that desperate for money that you need it - you might want to start filing for unemployment.
