Growth is flat, debt is up, R&D spending continue to grow, something got to give and it is the workers.

100% accurate. Layoffs will be a fact of life at Intel for at least the next 3 years.
@evw - @qsg may be a repetitive troll but you are wrong about this layoff. SMG sources report the number of layoffs will be on the order of 500 in SMG alone. TMG and business units, product groups to follow. 7% has been mentioned as the target for this round, which would mean 7000+ for the whole of Intel. Definitely not ot a onesie-twosie.
