Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell Layoffs 2018

Let's use this thread to consolidate our knowledge or rumors about possible job cuts at Dell in 2018.

Please post Dell groups, locations, geographies, size of the cuts or any other info you may have.

I am pretty sure most of the info is well guarded, but maybe we can get a bit or two of good information here.

Is Dell having problems making computers to meet demand? Asking because my order got pushed out a month. Wondering if the tariffs are causing a problem.

Several very good people were let go from the New York area. No req's available to keep them even though upper management says we will hire lots of new people. Severance packages look like they give you up to 6 months but no more.

Watch out you survivors!

In India COE, EMC had a position APE (Associate Principal Engineers) which DELL-EMC (after acquisition) was removed. Selected few in APE roles were promoted to PE and majority of them were made SSE's. This was the story in mid 2017. Now every BU has swelled with PE's (old+new) and similarly is the case with SSE's ... Rumor in India says that this redundancy can take a few hits and misses. Also due to the recent churning ... many senior roles are diluted. Many Senior managers are now sort of retained and are working as first line managers. Dell Inc just wants laborers as most of the things are automated. Very tough times ahead for long timers and the heap with same roles.

Support is very thin. Directors/Managers are almost begging people to work more hours on days off. We cant keep up with the numbers (sla's/slo's) the new brass is now asking of us. Managers are riding our a## like crazy. We could barely keep up with them before. Dell's upper brass doesnt know high end storage and how hard and long it takes to fix some of these complex problems. My group has hired 3 people in the last 6 months all with previous experience nobody new off the street. It takes almost a year to get new people trained and would only slow us down even more.

I got laid off last week and heard that November 2017, december 2017 and january 2017 are going to be a big purge. It is the BEST (India, Malaysia, China) vs the REST(US, Ireland). So the layoffs are going to be happening in the REST sites. EMC IT is going to be history soon and it is no mystery.

I suspect PIPs will be issues within the next few weeks - that allows Dell to get people off the books at the end of the year and carry less over into 2018. The mostly 90 day PIPs will come to term in January. Most business units are hurting at the moment, and there is still considerable dysfunction between Dell teams and EMC teams. In terms of where the RIFs will happen, it's anyone's guess, but support and services are pretty thin as it is, so I would look for cuts in field ops, which makes sense because at the moment there is a glut in field sales due to the merger. These are typically well paid people and cuts here would be effective in reducing payroll/benefits. Middle management may not get it right away, but there will be cuts there; they can't avoid it much longer - too much duplication. Keeps your eyes peeled for field sales/engineering positions getting cut, only to see a middle manager fall into that roll 3-6 months from now. February will be when the heads actually start to roll, but expect the pain to start at the end of October.

i hope your right mr grimes, but i suspect your being fed the corp line. There is no way any competent leader at any level will spook their teams by telling them layoffs are coming.

Maybe naive but if you are hearing different then please by all means share..going by what we were told .there is no layoffs or will there be any for the foreseeable future.what happened last year is done..personally i would take it and run but the option is no longer available

“Had a meeting yesterday and told all is ok..no money for layoffs and none planned and it's all rumours..dont know if they actually just don't know or is it the truth that layoffs are not gonna happen in cork..this was from the top dog so it must be true.”

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or are naive enough to believe what you were being told in light of what has happened the last year.

People are fighting for their job that has evolved beyond their capabilities by hogging the limelight and master key. while I am here just doing my job, keep my sh-- together by being resourceful and self dependent. It's a painful view to watch, although I really could not care less, but relooking into how HR manages the talent would be the most logical thing to do now because you guys are seriously forcing the wrong people out by wrongly identifying competence.

I got let go while fully billable on a big project. I billed 40 or more hours per week for the last 4.5 years and I'm a VMware specialist. We were very busy. I'm glad it's over now. I landed a new job at 54 years old with the government (state.) Hopefully it's my last and the .gov does not usually fire or layoff people.

10 People in Cork Finance Shared Services ( ex GBS Credit and Collections) has received their notice. I heard they are glad most of them since apparently they got the EMC package and are the last ones to get that as afterwards it's going to be sh--ty Dell package whatever the different packages are.

Heard rumours that 10 from each location Ovens, Ballincollig & City Gate will be made redundant on a monthly basis until the job is done. This is simple divide and rule techniques

Plus they don't have to report to the government not press

There have been no layoffs in the high end storage for customer support in the corp office. I did hear field people have been let go. But they typically dont just work on the high end. We actually just hired two people. Not off the street but people that have had experience with the Vmax. We are still short handed. Not to sure it would be a very smart thing to be getting rid of senior people in that dept. They are needed quite badly. The machine is not a simple thing to fix and takes years to lean. All the easy stuff moved to India. Absent of the premium contracts. Some customers dont want India involved but yet they still out source and in turn we have to deal with India. They start laying off senior people theirs gonna be a problem Houston. Ive been on bridge calls multiple times with customers Vp's, CEO's, our own CEO's and if you dont know what your talking about it will turn real ugly and into a huge problem real fast. Glad I know what Im talking about on those and am mostly readily available to assist my co-workers. Not everyone can know everything. Good luck to all
