How many of you here are on the 'buying' fence about iPhone X only because of the high price?

The cost itself is not too high, it's just not a good investment until we know for sure if it will support Gigabit LTE / 5G. Right now it appears that only units with the Qualcomm modem will support it, but units with the Intel modem will not support it. The current asking price for the iPhone X is only too high when you realize that you'll want a new one next year when the updated model DOES support the Gigabit LTE / 5G that you will certainly want to access.
-1gij - I clearly remember the time when iPhone was in design and Apple was looking for suppliers. As is well known, Apple drives the margin out of everything for suppliers, and Apple insisted on a certain cost per unit. The cost they wanted to pay was less than our forecasted manufacturing cost, so we would have been wrapping dollar bills around each unit sold to them. Of course in hindsight it would have turned out to be a great strategic decision, but at the time - before the iPhone / mobile revolution - it just didn't make sense. IMHO, PSO gets hammered for this decision too much but I do agree with you that the decision sealed our fate to eventually be like Motorola / Nokia.

Yup making mobile parts never much money or volume, that is why PSO passed. That little decision enabled Samsung and TSMC to catch up on 14nm this year and now be positioned to beat intel next year on technology a nice kick in the groin of which Intel won’t ever get off the ground to fight again.
Samsung profit and revenue exceeds Intel and TSMC stock, dividend and value beats the pants off intel.
The decision to pass on the iPhone sealed intels date to be like Motorola / Nokia.

It’s higher than Intel because of being the dominant supplier of silicon to Apple and most other mobile SOC players.
Intel missed the boat big time because of their stupid x86-everywhere policy.
@kcu Huh? Intel missed the boat? On what? Making Intel smartphones? Or on supplying smartphone parts?
You might not realize it, but it‘s the smartphone manufacturers, not the suppliers who rake in the money. Where Apple makes $200+ on a smartphone, a supplier of a $8 part certainly doesn‘t.

Apple and iPhones are stale not worth the rip-off prices whether you have money or not.
I am buying it anyway. Dont care about the price. $100, 200, 300 more - I really could care less. My phone is something that I use the most, I need a good phone more than I need a good car. I can live with a 'good enough' car, but I do not want to live with a 'good enough' phone - I want it to be top notch.
