Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

ZFSSA is dead

More than 60% of the profitable ZFSSA engineering team were fired in a RIF and the decline is gaining momentum. Our VP (OM) + chief of staff have moved elsewhere. Managers are running for the door. The senior engineers are now jumping ship voluntarily. Other engineers have moved to OPC and DB groups. Morale is in the crapper. Everyone is just working on their resumes. Builds don't work, there are new bugs everywhere and we are still supposed to get another release out. I wish the managers would be honest and tell us if we are going to get RIFed after the next release or moved to other products.

You seriously think the managers have a clue ? Most of them are looking for a new stint. W.r.t. the engineers, we all were under a delusion that this product is critical. It's clear that no one inside Oracle cares. Also, OPC seems to be done with its systems group quota. Additionally, there is no strong reason to stick with Oracle. So, summing up, there is no upside and it's best to move away.

From what I understand, they are using this product in the cloud. Maybe they just want to replace expensive engineers with cheaper ones? Maybe leadership doesn't understand and just said, "deliver me this many heads, I don't care how you do it," and they just did it?

The problem with larger organizations is that they manage towards a number. They are trying to make sure they meet whatever trajectory they promised the market. This is why Oracle is run by lawyers, accountants, HR, sales, and marketing. When Oracle was started, the leadership was a bunch of engineers. With Larry now checked out, all you have is financial wizards that run the firm.

Why would they tell you that you're going to get fired? It's always about the element of surprise, so let them fire you so you can get any severance, no matter how small it maybe and unemployment benefits.
