Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Can the NDA we signed be considered extortion?

That NDA we were coerced into signing with our severance isn't worth the paper it's written on. They knew most of us live paycheck to paycheck and firing us without notice would leave us strapped, so they dangled their blood money in front of us to force us to sign our rights away. Sign or your children starve! My lawyer told me that making it conditional to receiving the money can be seen as extortion, especially by worker-friendly Portland juries.

Found this in another thread, I was wondering if this can be true? It would be nice to know. After the way Nike treated me after decades with the company, some payback would be nice.

It wasn't an NDA you signed. It was the same agreement you signed when you were first hired. It is practically unenforceable unless you are disclosing actual intellectual property to a competitor. With very few exceptions, even that information has a short shelf life. You can talk to anyone and say anything you want. Don't be intimidated. If you are aware of any violation of the law (NCAA bribery, FIFA bribery, kickbacks, payoffs, s-xual harassment, s-xual assault, age or racial discrimination, etc.) and wish to report it to the authorities or bring a civil case, no NDA or similar document can prohibit you from coming forward. That's what really has Nike worried. They have been covering up the internal crime and corruption for so long that they can't imagine any other way.

If you got your severance, you signed away your rights. Read the fine print. I also saw a lawyer, and not a lot that can be done. If any lawyer knows differently, please let us know!

If you signed your severance package you’re bound by a NDA. Also, within the fine print says you will not say anything bad about Nike, ever, to damage its reputation. I would love to know more about a class action lawsuit but definitely won’t risk my own package.

Hush money is hush money. You can still file complaints with EEOC (ageism) or Dept. of Labor or

H1-B American Worker Discrimination https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/eta/eta20170404-0

You just can't receive compensation from Nike

If you signed the contract to receive your severance, you signed an NDA. Get over it. Really, payback??? You had a good job, likely for years. Let's all move on and be grateful for the opportunities we had and will have in the future.

Lawyer reviewed it. Hard to enforce.

I never signed any nda and still got my severance. Maybe only a select few had to sign or they figured I didn't know anything worth disclosing.
