Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Warning signs ahead of layoffs

Boy, could I empathize with the person who wrote the question, considering all the confusion surrounding the last major Humana layoffs. The answer makes some good points that I thought people here might want to read.

To answer your question, I am not sure. All I can tell is that LTIH or most of HAH is being restructured. More money is being directed to the consumer need- transportation, meals, discharge planning and chronic disease management. I don't see room for prevention. The new MA plans are offering more support in meals, transportation. OTC is being reduced or eliminated, Health coaches are diverted and serviced through Go365 and a questionnaire. Logistic care services are being increased and premiums are being reduced. The consumer spoke and they don't want excessive calls. Review the new plans. 2018 proposes new services to consumers to meet their needs. It does not include an a large workforce of PHC, SS, CHE's; it involves a new business model that is revolved around clinical management. My wonder is, does clinical management include social support and a holistic view of the elderly, their caregivers? Does that mean all of Humana is now working toward the license... RN's, LCSW, MD's and Psychiatrists as suggested by the new CEO, new legislation and consumer needs. Just a thought... but in the end the consumer and the market is going to drive the direction of this monster. Not our rantings about how bad we have it.

I know a wellness coach is different from Hccp hcm rn. That is a benefit we have as hcm Rn right now. It is a separate department like the personal nurse program on the commercial side. In the tele monitored instructions, there was even a section saying we could still refer to a wellness program for weight loss, smoking cessation etc

Previous poster, are you looking at Medicare Advantage benefits? Wellness coach may just be included in an all encompassing title. Also, was wellness coach in the past listed to describe PHCs role? You could be reading into this more than necessary.

If you look on the benefits for 2018 the Humana Wellness Coach is no longer offered as a benefit.

Sounds like it went out to some CHEs. We all know they are planning to completely eliminate this role. HCMs will soon be doing all their own education.

Today at least 2 people on my team received a form from our leader via email to fill out and return. It asked about daily responsibilities, how much time each task takes, and how much expertise is needed to complete.

If that's not the writing on the wall, then I don't know what is...

Good article, never thought of the idea of announcing it, people may leave on their own, so, in turn, less lay offs

Thank you for the post. This quote from the article sums up why this site has become so active: “In many companies including all dysfunctional workplaces, the informal network or "grapevine" is a more highly-trusted information source than anything your manager or HR tells you.”

I also liked the “you are a free range chicken” message.
