National Hiring Event.

How was your Sears National Hiring Event yesterday October 17th? We didn't have one single person come in to either inquire or apply in our Sears store.

My nephew's friend started last week at JC Penney as a seasonal hire at $11.50 an hour. I am in California.

Jcpenny in our state does not start you at $11.50 an hour also, they do exactly the same things we do. Read some of the comments for the layoff Jcpenny.

I don't know about this past one, but our HR has been forced by our DM to have several hiring events, wherein they set up a bright and cheerful table at the front of the store and sit there asking people if they're interested in a job. I know that during at least two of them they basically wasted a whole day up there with not a single hire to show for it.

I didn't have a long shift and was busy with fighting with the intimates department, so I'm sure what I saw was limited, though I did have a few asking for direction to the HR office.

1yph - Sears/Kmart can't afford to be that picky anymore if they want to find anyone to hire... Minimum wage at a dying company doesn't attract the best workers, and their continued demands for drug tests knock out much of the remaining candidates. As long as they show up and don't have a bad attitude towards customers, Sears/Kmart should be happy to have them at this point...

And I feel management should be the ones to train these new hires because they all have a rotten attitude!!! They don’t want to do their best or even walk fast

We didn't hire a single person at my Kmart. Our annoying service desk person who think she's Kasey Kasum was even doing PA's about the hiring event as a "Bluelight Special."

They need to emphasize more on the “ dress code” with these people they are hiring

  1. yoga pants are not work attire

2.no white tennis shoes or house slippers

  1. Cover your tattoos

  2. Wear deodorant

  3. Cover up your girls

  4. No shuffling and deliberately being slow to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out your short shift

  5. Leave your nasty attitude at home

Whatever happened to taking pride in how you look on the JOB and work ethic

@1swx It is sad its why Sears basically doesnt get good workers people are going to go where they get paid more if if JCPenny is paying a $1 or more people will not go for the lesser pay.

@1ncb It is sad it is truth Sears is left with just the left overs where people couldn't make it in other places just makes it overall sad. All I can say is a lot of them leave and if Sears is going to be pushing them they definitely will leave that's how bad Sears has gotten. Their were apparently filled positions, but I am yet to see new seasonals out in the field (not like other years when beginning of October you saw new faces and more people getting near BF).

It went pretty bad. Most of the people I interviewed seemed to be going through the motions to keep their unemployment.

One guy showed up to the interview in sweats. Another smelled like m-r-j-a-a. Because of our sue happy society, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, went through the motions and interviewed him. I cut it short, didn't do the second part and said "we will be in touch with a hiring decision".

So many others "aced" the interview yet turned out to be real duds. No call no shows, late all the time, disappearing out of the blue, manufactured crises as to why they can't show up.

Oh, PLENTY of people who wasted their time and ours because they couldn't pass a drug test. m-r-j-a-a is legal in my state so there are so many candidates that are hired pending a clean drug test but fail. Bet it costs our company a ton.

So, yeah, I'm a little jaded, but look around. Most other retailers are offering higher wages and better opportunities so what can we expect? That's right, the "leftovers" nobody wants. Once in a great while we will get someone that does have a good work ethic. It shall be pretty interesting to see how this unfolds between having no choice but to staff our stores with bottom of the barrel seasonal hires and having so many existing employees leaving in droves.

I also went to the mall and Penney's had a line of people who were being hired on the spot subject to passing the drug test. They didn't have to do any assessment test either. The HR person I talked to said they were going to do another hiring event at this location next week because they ran out of time. She also said the one next week would start later in the afternoon and extend into the evening because a number of applicants work during the day. She said the starting rate of pay was $11.50 an hour. I wonder how many Sears employees applied?

I was actually shocked I worked that day in my store and ASM opened the store saying welcome any people to our store this National Hiring Day. Well in my store I swear to god I saw a few here and their (probably at most 10). I decided to go to the mall and man was JCP packed their was a damn line yet (I would say around 30 and probably more) Sears looked so depressing. For the kickers the part time HR said their were no openings (lol wtf) apparently they were all filled days ago already what a waste of time for this kiddos.

Also I would like to add that another ASM said earlier in the month we werent going to hire no seasonals, but LOL I knew this was BS because apparently they did. It doesnt matter either way the hours will be cut to the bone apparently even with new seasonals we aren't getting any extra hours this holiday...

I wasn't there at my Kmart that day but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a throng of excited people wanting to work here.
