OP I wish your optimism and hope can be supported, but have to share few sobering points:
Nervana chip has few good aspects, even advantages, but here are problems
Intel is way to slow to execute in silicon (close to 3 years design cycle which they can shorten but very much)
Intel has little to no IP in the area and at the moment FPGA's is the weapon of choice,
but
NVidia's chip is not a graphics but dedicated workload accelerator
NVidia is extremely quick with relentless track record (opposite from Intel) and can shift before Intel blinks
NVidia has huge IP portfolio, which is key value for any DL accelerator
With this picture in mind, who do you bet on?
afaik tsmc 28nm used for these
Intel is coming late to every party and throwing darts and hoping it sticks, nope
Nervana could, but Old Intel is holding things back.
Doubtful.
