Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Honeywell paying fatties 500 dollars to drop 2 BMI points in 2018?

Did anyone else see that they are bribing the morbidly obese (medical definition of people with BMIs over 35) a $500 HSA contribution next year if they lose 2 BMI points? Everyone else gets nothing! Not only do those obese people drive everyone else's healthcare costs up.... they are getting indirectly rewarded for years of poor choices. What a pathetic joke!

Don't even get me started on how management seemingly discourages healthy lifestyles (taking down onsite basketball/volleyball courts and walking tracks, limited healthy options in cafeteria and vending machines, allowing smoking onsite, etc) ..... I thought this company preaches personal responsibility and integrity.

If you read the changes in HR Direct, it also mentions that failure to achieve the -2 point BMI reduction goal for those 35 BMI or over results in a $500 penalty.

I called the benefits number given in the open enrollment email yesterday that describes the Fat tax. I wanted to know how to get an exemption on the BMI . ( There are those of us with medically conditions taking meds that no matter how hard we try we cant lower the BMI. ) They hook me up with some foreigner who knows nothing. Say we have to wait into next year and they will tell us.

So all the athletic build or bodybuilders will be considered obese? Hope the company took this into consideration, or it may get ugly...

"Worst post ever".... sorry (not sorry) that the truth hurts a little. Maybe you would care to elaborate on your vague attack with a thoughtful rebuttal. Perhaps the original post could have been worded better, but the point remains literally unopposed by anyone that's posted in this thread.... it's fundamentally unfair to carrot one group with $$ and turn your back on everyone else. If Honeywell wants 'healthier' employees, than management should actively encourage that behavior FOR EVERYONE like other more up to date / progressive companies.... anything else is LAUGHABLE.

Yea, I agree with recent posters that Honeywell (and our healthcare system) WILL systematically root out 'unhealthy' or 'risky' behaviors with cost increases. It's inevitable. Maybe it's not for the worst, but it kinda stinks to lose that freedom to do wtfyw (within reason). It's not a magic pot of free healthcare/tax money. It comes from somewhere and insurance companies are out to make a buck.... today's surgery raises all of our pool's premiums next year by an incremental fraction.

ps- We're Americans (most of us at least), we could all stand to eat a few less calories. Also imho shame requires dignity which is a liability in corporate America.

Don't worry, the company will eventually give you a chance with other indicators such as High Cholesterol. It always starts out as a carrot and ends with the stick.

First they came for the Smokers, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Smoker.

Then they came for the fat people, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a fat person.

Then they came for the High BP, diabetes, drinkers, people on pain meds or anti-depressents, people that take part in high-risk activity, sunbathers, those that drive gas guzzling vehicles, people that vape, m-r-j-a-a smokers, , and I did not speak out—

Because I was not one of those.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me

I am pretty sure that smokers get out of their $1500 penalty by just trying to quit. They just have to go to a class or two and then just say I can't and they are forgiven each year. Why not let people over BMI of 35 say they tried and get nothing ?

Whoa we’re giving out blankies and a binkies and naptimes..... sign me up!

But more seriously, where do you recommend people go for the dirty scoop, inside info, whining about new company policies (nice perjorative btw), etc. please share if there’s another outlet. This forum is seemingly the next best thing. Maybe you should think about offering solutions along with your slurs. Not saying you can’t dish out the ‘love’.... just make it more constructive so you’re not such a negative nancy.

someone needs a blankie and a binkie and a nap. i started coming to this site for RIF info and things of that nature - it was accurate. it's become this whiney cesspool of b*tchy people who are likely awful employees to start with.

HOWEVER, when you have co-workers who are considered over the BMI range and can't afford to lose 5 pounds off of their already thin frames (seriously, no one at my site passed the BMI scale, including people who weigh 115 lbs sopping wet WITH steel toed shoes on), there's a problem. it's a horrible plan to basically leech the $500/year you're fat fee from the employees. is it going to make or break my decision to remain a HW employee? Nope. This place really isn't all that bad.

POeFWcp is angry people don’t like his 12 folds of fat problem. I see you fatties waddle around the cafeteria and clog up the lines until you stop at the dessert station. We need a badge-in desert area where BMI > 35 blobbies do not have access.

No one is blaming the ‘fatties’. Good for them to get a chance to make $$ and possibly improve their health. Bad on management for fostering a negative unhealthy environment AND rewarding one segment of the population while giving the finger to everyone else.

Bottom line - let's stop blaming the employees for being unhealthy and put the blame where it belongs - on the unhealthy atmosphere the company has created. Shame on Honeywell!!!

What if Honeywell made you only work 40 hours a week and recommended spending that extra 4 hours for exercise or sleep, if they're going to scrutenize life style choices? What about less bean-counter-induced stress? How about spending it with your family and kids?

Since I was attacked by what appears to be the original narcissitic OP (I was the first to post after) he says "My mother was a FATTY". Well, guess what? She NEVER was. Nor am I (although I have put some pounds on lately (sigh)).

You must be one of the "insiders" who only still has a job becuase you are a "smiliing monkey". Likely you won't ever find a job after Honeywell because everyone you work, and have worked with, knows you are an a-hole. You may be doomed to work at Honeywell until you die or retire, with nowhere to go.

I'm a 'fatty' with a high BMI and use tobacco products.

I want to reach out to my 'fatty hating fans' who swear on their mothers grave that me being a 'fatty' makes your health insurance cost more and seriously think that I will soon have diabetes and you will have to pick that cost up with your premium increases!

Funny thing is, I only go the Dr once a year for a check-up. Doc says I'm 'morbid obese' because that's what his little chart says. Blood work always comes back will within range and says that he will see me next year! You, your just a skinny b!tch with DNA to back it up.

What you 'fatty haters' forget is 2 fold. 1) your medical expenses will far surpass mine 2) you failed business 101.

1) your live your life reckless. Your craigslist hook-up STD's, dirt bike riding, sore thumbs from x-box, carpal tunnel from (well you know on your right hand), your complete disregard for eating 'healthy' (what ever that effin means, I got a diet plan to sell you), sun bathing cancer (cause you think your such in good shape), prostate issues, blue pill pop-in, pain pill popping and alcohol consumption will cost us ALL MORE.

2) Business are in it to make money. You cost money. Your forced to pay, they get rich and you just bit$h. Go vote and feel the BURN (that's your willy) and all will be better!

3) I'll pass go and take my $500. Why have a six-pack when you got a keg!

This board has turned into a bunch of wussies.

I will say that I used to be healthy before working here. I have been here a little over 7 years and have since gained over 50 lbs, been put on HBP medicine, anti-stress medication (daily), and have unfortunately added 'self-medication' in drinking more alcohol to deal with the stress. I'm not saying it's entirely Honeywell's fault, but I never had these issues before and I'm nearing 50 years old (been around the block and town). I don't think it's going to help anyone to demean those that are overweight, nor do I believe the overweight are not without blame (as I am myself), but I do recognize that the environment @ Honeywell does NOT promote a healthy mindset. So, let's all be a little more compassionate? I am hopeful that this SMALL "gesture" of rewarding those to drop BMI will help save lives. That's how we should all view it. imho

-vxz "that is their problem". No it is everybody's problem. Obesity leads to diabetes and other nasty medical problems. Fatties incur enormous medical costs. We all pay for it. Medicare could be driven bankrupt with the epidemic of obesity.

This BMI stuff is a farce. They say I'm above my BMI which is 26 should be under 24?? I'm young 52 at 5'7" 165 to 170lbs waist 32-34 to me is not over the BMI what they going by a ancient charting. I have more muscles than fat so guess they don't count that.

Another thing how is it they know what our test results are I want to know?? Isn't this against the HIPAA act them getting it.

Here’s a scientific (thermodynamics) fact and an Honeywell economics lesson for you.... put less calories in your obscenely obese body than you need to sustain your weight in 2018 and guess what.... You’ll get 500 dollars as a reward. Any other excuse for not being able to achieve that is fat logic. Be glad you’re getting one of the last few fringe benefits Honeywell offers. The rest of us are cheering you on :)

As usual, blame the lawyers. Companies are not allowed to punish the fatties, so instead they find a way to reward them for moving in the right direction. I don't want to defend fatties. I don't respect people who are too lazy or selfish to maintain a minimum fitness level ... and think of what their spouses have to deal with.

Fat peoples are lethargic and do not perform as well as us healthy people. They s--- up twice as much air as healthy people and are farting all the time stinking up the office.

They should be the first ones let go in a RIF as they are a drag on company resources.

It’s a matter of equal opportunities, not a debate about whether or not weight can be lost by certain individuals. Why should ‘healthier’ people get zero contributions to their HSA along with an increase to the LEGALLY ALLOWED MAXIMUM personal spending limit? Where’s the logic in that? Honestly I don’t care how people live their lives.... weigh whatever weight you want for all I care. What I do care is when someone’s scientifically proven unhealthy lifestyle choices burdens me or in a rare socialist BS case like this one, someone is given an opportunity not afforded to EVERYONE because of their ‘pre-existing condition’. HSA contribution opportunities for all or for none!

Also I do agree that BMI is BS. Body compositions vary too greatly to boil it down to one number.

There are people who can't get down on their weight because of other health issues the meds they are given makes it difficult to lose the weight. Another thing -- BMI measure is nothing more than a statical tool that is too easily abused by the health industry.

And another thing Honeyhell is going to judge you on pre-existing condictions .

With the daily stress at a job at Honeywell, it's a real challenge to stay healthy.

Forcing employees to work 44-hour weeks, EVERY week? Forcing employees to continue to take on other people's jobs after layoffs, even though you already are doing the job that 3 others used to do? Facing continuous waves of layoffs nearly every quarter? Getting PIPed for just making ONE mistake because of a PIP quota?

What is DC's BMI? Talk about fatty.

Also, the cafeteria at my site totally s---ed.
