Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Thanksgiving 2017

I am assuming we will be open since there has not been any mention that Sears will join the list of other retailers that will be closed on Thanksgiving Day:(

I think it was more exciting to have Stores closed and just open early on Friday

I never get a weekend off, esp with being one of the ad set people, the chances of that are pretty much nothing. My family is wanting to do fun fall/Halloween stuff right now. Naturally, I can't be a part of it. Sad that I have already have to miss out on this stuff... I just wish I could have my holidays with them like it was back before society decided consumerism was more important. Agree that all the higher ups should have to forgo it and come help in stores.

It makes no sense. All year long the company pushes online sales. Buy online, cheaper online, we can hold your items reserved online while you pay in store, buy online and use curbside pick up, and online purchases are given priority vrersus customers who buy in store. So why is it necessary for me to work on Thanksgiving? It seems like the company just wants to show they have power over you. Last Thanksgiving, they made a big deal over cashiers ringing commission associates numbers, yet they had cashiers at every register so we couldnt make any money. I worked Black Friday for years and I used to be really excited about it. The money was good. Now they rig the game against you.

Honestly we do some good business, at least at Kmart. We get a lot of last minute shoppers looking for what ever they need to complete their thanksgiving meal

You would think with the cut in staff and employees, someone one would think, hmmmmm, if we open, we are going to use more payroll by having the employees here on thanksgiving than if we just closed that day and open up at 5am.

I agree bring in all those people from corporate to the stores to work at the retail store level, bet they would all want to be closed if they were scheduled to go and stand in front of a register or pull dot.com orders.... they... I mean Sears upper management, are pieces of SH!T, they wont be working on thanksgiving, while we have to work and our familys sit at home enjoying each others company. And we pawns are becoming disgruntled even more

@1oxw... Kmart had been open on thanksgiving since the early 1990s. We were the first store to do it, I remember the tv ad campaign, it was historic at the time. It certainly wasn't 2010, I know because I've been working thanksgiving at Kmart for the last 2 decades!

@1oxw Their is no point in opening earlier and earlier people are doing more online shopping now. People can actually be with their family on BF and still be shopping at the same time. Opening early in the store wont save sales its just no point its a waste.

Everyone store wants to take the upper hand, but they don't see that maybe the way to do that is being bringing some enticing deals?

There really is no point on being open on thanksgiving this year when we pretty much think the company might not make it past this holiday season. HHGregg decided to stay closed. Guess what? They ended up going belly up.

@ieng guess who was the first company to open on thanksgiving day? It was kmart back in 2010. And all the greedy ones followed.

Our Michigan store was open! Don’t think we reached our sales go so I’m sure it’s going to be even worse this year!

Pathetic that any retailer even started this

They'll be open because they are desperate to get as much money as possible, even though it isn't going to make a damn bit of difference. Black Friday also is going to be f---ing terrible as well.

Last year our store was closed Thanksgiving, as were a few others across the company. Internally, the reasons were that sales volume did not necessitate being open on TG.

However, if I recall correctly, Sears tried to put a positive spin on it and said "associates will be able to spend time with their families"...but not all stores were closed on TG. The "moneymakers" were open, so what about those associates? It would have been better just to be honest and say certain stores will be open based on how many customers shopped those stores last year.

Personally I don't celebrate TG but the majority of associates do. Either way, it doesn't affect me personally, but this is a holiday many people have to be with family they don't see all too often.

Maine and Massachussets do not allow retailers like Sears to be open on Thanksgiving.

At this point aint gona happen honestly most likely Sears will open (atleast in CA) like 6 P.M. or who knows even earlier. Sears is desperate to sell and they will open, but the higher ops get to enjoy their thanksgiving with family.
