Thread regarding Sears layoffs

What time does your store come in to do ad set?

Got told today it’s going to be 6am even though it’s outside of my availability

Reason: as isn’t getting done fast enough

@asv- it’s not someone printing too many. I print the signs for my entire store and I only ever print the batch once.

"I get 4 sets of identical signs" - A despise the the surplus duplicates so much. I haven't been able to decide if this is something in the system being sent to us (??) OR if someone in our store is printing too many times? Last Sunday I needed only THREE signs for something as always... I had 18. Incredible waste of time and resources.

And then there are the ones that disappear from the system. Two Sundays ago I'd requested a bunch that were missing for some reason, so they should have been there no problem for last Sunday - nope, gone again. Of all things they want to spend time on changing or "improving," they can't possibly spend it on these things that actually make sense in terms of money and time. (How about we stop changing signs that didn't change price? Tire of going in and finding it the case with 90% of it. To think maybe I could have slept longer.)

@poq- in my store we have 2 people for signing. I do all of softlines, including shoes and home fashions. Another girl does all of hardlines, except for appliances, which have digital signs. It takes us from 6 until 2, and often we have to finish on Monday. Neither of us has had a Sunday off for as long as I can remember...at least a year. I get 4 sets of identical signs for every single item in RTW, and have scanned the extra 3 as “not needed” at least 10 times to no avail. The amount of paper we waste is absolutely insane. I scan all the signs before putting any up, but I have given up on Simply Styled. For that area I just walk through and request all the signs.

@ieib a couple of our ad people do scan all up first instead of as you go.

Soft lines is a bear to sign!!! I think we would be better off requesting the signs than hunting through the stack! This area would have definitely benefitted from electronic signing just because of the volume of signs!

Everyone should be trained on signing and have to do a Sunday or two in order for the long time signers to have a break from it!

I would gladly push freight on a Sunday instead of doing ad set every darn Sunday and with the holidays coming we need more people in on sundays to help with the ad

It’s getting difficult to sign 96 though with the overflow of product being put anywhere and everywhere

I like to know how you can start setting a ad in softlines at 8:30 ???and the store opens at 8 it's a joke !!!

We come in at 8am and the store manager doesn't want us in earlier. I guess they think if we come in before then we won't have coverage. Like the earlier comment, if everyone was trained to do ad sets we wouldn't have to be there every Sunday. It's ridiculous how corporate seems to think this "merging" of teams is actually working. This is so far from the truth, they need to go back to having cashiers and mcas so people can actually get some work done.

Our ad set "team" usually consists of two people. Needless to say, even if they're there at 6AM, it takes them a while. Then there is the whole stupid ad verification, wherein I think most stores just cheat and have someone stand there and scan every sign in the stack prior to actually putting them up rather than trying to hunt everything down once they're actually up.

@lji i will gladly give my Sunday hours to anyone who wants to do ad set, especially the first of the month

They made it such a slow process by having to click on each division to scan signs up instead of the way it was 10 years ago

@acb Exactly. Was grumbling over that yet again this past Sunday...

To think I could have stayed in bed longer if this company saved time and money in ways that actually made sense; such as these waste of time and paper identical signs.

Always been 7am these couple years I've worked there. Heard it suggested it might change to 8am, but hasn't happened at this point. Better as hell not change to earlier yet, 7am is painful as it is. I don't mind doing the ad, but as a night owl I despise the early hours. (I NEVER sleep well enough or get to sleep soon enough Sat. nights before having to get up early and so tired of that being a weekly thing.)

Wish other certain team members who don't do it would have to help with it so some of us didn't have to do it every single damn Sunday and could have a break now and then. (Even our own manager is only rarely in with us Sunday mornings.) Tired of pulling the ad trump card on a co-worker who whines about hours but never has to be in early on Sundays or help with this.

Half of the adset is taking down a sign and replacing it with the exact same one, only the takedown date is different.

If the company only changed signs that actually changed in price, the adset wouldn't take as long. It wouldn't use as much cardstock paper either.

In our Sears store we start taking signs manually down at 6:30 pm Saturday night and start scanning signs out at 7:15 pm. We continue scanning down till 10:00 pm and then we punch out. We come back at 7:00 am Sunday morning to finish although we are never done by store opening since our teams hours and staffing are cut to the bone. If 6:00 am is outside your approved availability contact 88sears. They tried that in another Sears store in our district and were told they cannot do that. The California State Labor Board agreed and also told the store to stop doing it.

My store does it Saturday night since the system lets you start scanning new signs at 8:15pm that night.

We're doing it at 7 am and it switched to 8 am. We weren't doing it in time so they changed it back to 7 am. I think to make things more efficient we should have some signs that last a while month instead of taking down the sign the day before to see the exact same price when doing set up....
