Celebrating 200th acquisition - bad optics, Cisco

When a company has annual layoffs, a languishing stock price, and spends billions on acquisitions, maybe it should refrain from posting videos of executives drinking champagne and patting themselves on the back.

Cisco very strange company. I recently left on my own after 12 years. I was top performer always got bonus and RSUs and was told I’m always in top 1%. When I resign my boss didn’t even ask why, didn’t try get me to stay, just said ok, we going to miss you. Then on last day no exit interview no HR contact at all. I kind of just walked out the door after lunch and did not return. My manager was not around so I left my computer on his desk. It was very strange. Unlike any company I’ve worked for before.

Layoffs aren't a "way of life" except only at truly badly managed companies - and when a lay off is necessary, there are far better ways to do it than the way Cisco does theirs.

Celebration of yet another overpriced and likely botched acquisition does not need a YouTube video.

And when does the company celebrate? Layoffs are a way of life. The world doesn't stop spinning when people are made redundant. You had a few guys sharing a drink because they have achieved something. Big deal. Hardly news worthy.

Should all celebrations be banned? Should we cancel the Fun Fund because the word "fun" might upset some people? Maybe Connected Recognition should be cancelled? Do you know they are thinking about promos and pay rises....surely these should be stopped as they will upset people who have been let go???

I saw a manager smile the other day...how insensitive was that!

This post is not about management being insensitive its about people wanting an excuse for a moan.

@1wjk: You completely missed the point. Of course acquisitions are part of a healthy business strategy. It is about the timing and the delivery. Nothing says 'screw you' like a YouTube video posted by a cute millennial, of you drinking champagne while others are being escorted out the door.

Dont you think your post is just a little bit pathetic. Fact is that growing by acquisition is no different from a lot of companies and so they are guilty of sharing a glass of bubbly....hardly excessive!

With regards "languishing share price". Its doubled in 5 years.

I'm thinking you just want an excuse for a moan. All rather sad.
