Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What are we looking at on Friday with Chevron's earning's report?

So, are we gonna repeat the success of the last earning report or fall flat on our faces? I say we'll do well once again, but from what I've been seeing around, I might be in the minority. In any case, good results mean fewer layoffs (or so I hope,) so I will remain optimistic for the next two days.

Yes you are correct, the market over-reacted as it often does. The market is unpredictable and selling begets selling. The stock has room to come back is all that produced. It is still doing well for the year. A bit of a bounce today I see also, ironically, during a down day for everything else. Only time will tell. Hang in there. Rebalance, move along.

5fmt, actually, the earning report was good. We were profitable for the quarter. What the investors didn’t like in the call was the news that we lost ground on US production. That part was bad news and the stock price tanked almost $5. So, I wouldn’t exactly say anyone on this site nailed it.

kjq- you nailed it. It was a bad earnings report. The five-course-meal middle managers must be worried about big cuts.

When you look at the mentally disturbed people associated with Chevron posting on here, you can understand the performance issues in every asset and the disgraceful fatality level each year and see exactly why the earnings missed. Why would anyone be surprised?

Yes Indeed. Heads must roll and heads will roll. Cut out the deadwood. It's been way too long. We cleaned house a little last year but it's time to finish the job. Way too much dead weight being carried.

I am appalled that two years into the oil price crash and with rising prices, the entire Chevron domestic upstream business lost money and fell behind on production versus 2016. How is that even possible? There is clearly no Cost control occurring. I expect heads to roll at this stage.

CVX 3rd quarter profits up on higher oil prices, but their US production fell. Investors didn’t like that news and decided to take to take their gains and sell the stock. CVX down $5.75 some ten minutes before the closing bell on Friday.

Our stock price for the last 3 months has been going up nicely. So logically, I’m expecting a pretty good 3rd quarter earnings result for CVX. I’m not going to speculate on whether we meet or beat analysts consensus, but I’m not expecting a negative reaction to the earnings call.
