FIRST THE SWISS layoffs, layoffs in other GE Power sectors overseas, then next the layoffs in the states. Then create 1000 jobs in France as part of the merger.

They won't create these jobs in France. They will prefer to pay the penalty of EUR 50'000 per each non-created job. It is a very low price actually, a no-brainer to me.

On the regional call about the layoffs, it was mentioned no dismissals in France this year, France will have to wait until 2019 due to the agreement with the gov't.

Yes, typically the laws in Europe protect the worker much more than the US, on the downside it's also harder to get hired as the companies, for that very reason, are very careful approach hiring people.

After the last financial crisis, a lot of the workers rights were cut, so not so good for the young people.

The Peterborough motors plant in Canada is set to close in September of next year once we finish manufacturing the last of the committed orders. This plant has been here since 1892. We are being addled to train France and Brazilian employees how to do our job. Negotiations are still ongoing about severance and other things. Moral has hit a low.

It has been reported that GE is actually laying off in France, and paying the French government a fine for the privilege.

GE will layoff very soon in the US (in fact, it has already started), but it takes more time in Europe with all the bureaucracy. My guess is that, sadly (for some), the employees in Europe will get a much better severance than their US counterparts. Get all you can guys before the coffers are dry!
