Google altogether is a overhyped company with only a few successes - Search Engine, online Adv. and some G-Suite products. Google Cloud Platform is at least 5 years behind AWS and Azure and clearly struggling to gain any traction in public cloud service provider business so their CEO is on an announcement spree, announcing partnership with whoever is ready to work with them provided they are a "fortune x" company - Salesforce, Cisco, VMWare and so on. Cisco VPs as other comments suggest use such partnership announcements to create hype, hide their failures and save their jobs.

If Google is having trouble gaining traction in the enterprise, why on earth would they go to a company that has no software traction nor private cloud traction in the enterprise? VCE isn't exactly dominating the landscape nor is metacloud. Google picked a partner which is great int he LAN/WAN space, but in the SDN space, is totally lost. Most customers running n9k are still running in standard mode. Very few are running in ACI mode.

This is also just another attempt by Kip to keep his job, he's been building nothing for years, but has convinced Chuck that we need to build cloud (which is true), but falsely that he's the guy to lead it.

It's a crap attempt by Kip to save his job. Just like everything else he does it will be a disaster because he has no clue what it takes to build something new.

Google is struggling to get traction in the enterprise space where Cisco is strong. They are gaining more then us and will not be pushing Cisco themselves, it's just like the Apple "partnership". We benefit by looking like we're relevant for a few weeks before everyone realises again that it's all smoke and mirrors.

It's awesome, that's what it is! Had customers and Googlers contacting me already. Certainly driving interest. Happy Days.

(p.s I am one of those AMs who love working at Cisco, I enjoy my job, I earn lots of $$ and I am a realist. True!.. we do exist. Sorry)

Kubernetes came out of Google , even Docker is announcing support for it . So this is the way to go if you want Hybrid clouds. Also it adds a few cents to the stock price :-)

Microsoft former CEO Steve Ballmer started Microsoft Cloud project Azure 7 years ago, now people are seeing its effect, it turned MSFT around.

Microsoft is able to turn things around in under 5 years and become a major cloud player on their own. Yet, Cisco has to team with Google. Pathetic. Google will eventually figure it out on their own and dump Cisco. This article backs up that other person's comment in a previous thread that Nadela is the best CEO in IT. Chuck can't lead sh--.

Cisco is just taking what's left of the Intercloud team (right now just Metacloud and ContainerX) and saying "Run Istio on it!!!". Kip has already put out a blog with a bunch of slideware.

The thing is nobody wants to run Cisco private clouds. Cisco sells hardware that can be used to make a private cloud, but doesn't actually sell private cloud solutions/platforms.

This group should have been fired 3 years ago. Remember, every year that cloud group pivots to get more funding from the board, yet hasn't turned out a solution that anybody wants to buy in 4 years. Odd that they keep laying off engineers, but the execs are never held accountable.

All the VPs have gone on to better careers within Cisco. Funny how that works. Staff get LRd and VPs get promoted or move back into IT with promotions.

Cisco isn't one of the best PR companies in the world unless you base it on the amount of money they throw at it.

It is not PR which supports the share price as revenues decline. It is all those share buybacks and passive investment funds.

Good PR would have Cisco looking like it had made a successful transition to the cloud.

It is a bunch of hacks to the already band-aided cloud center product. Cisco wants to be cool and shipping anything - even something really really bad - is better than nothing. Especially with the word Google on it.

Great move to divert attention away from more layoffs.

Very easy. PR is cheaper than having to develop anything in house. Outside world thinks you have moved into the cloud. Inside we will all using Chrome on Android phones. Google is the new Apple
