Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart Digital

I am a store employee and somewhat low tech. I am hearing the term "Walmart Digital" - what is it - I am trying to figure out if and how this is important and what kind of influence this will have on us in stores. Is this making the website bigger? Or some other group or an initiative?

It's a hard question, I'll try to be brief and clear:

There is no digital group per se, however - look at Digital as our future business - it means that literally whatever we do will have a digital component, some kind of device that accepts inputs and creates outputs. This can be as simple as opening the door, or using energy to run a lightbulb, or as complex as complicated truck routes, quirky purchases, etc.

All inputs and outputs are stored in massive databases.

The data collected, trillions of record (e.g., imagine how many bulbs we have and often they go on and off) is analyzed.

Business decisions are made based on the analysis. Outcomes are measured and refined, and the cycle goes on.

So, basically, all you do is digitally recorded, stored, analyzed and decisions are made based on all of that...

I hope this helps.
