Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Good Luck GE Power Schenectady NY

Or should I say good by! Rumor has it that 273 Schenectady NY is being looked at very hard. So those with 5 years or less service might want to think about another job! The Career days are over for GE Power for management and union workers. 30% or more are on the chopping block. I would have to agree that most workers don’t care. Everyone wants a layoff in 273

They did the two tier thing on the shop floor in Healthcare years ago. It destroyed morale then, just as it is doing in Greenville and Schenectady now.

Ha Ha Ha those d rates and retirees have no clue. It is coming and no one cares. We are lead by a plant manager who on the news named a field a rotor and a rotor a field. No wonder why 273 is in bad shape along with GE Power! Perfect example on who leads 273 down. Also I bet the company decreases the retirement benefits and pensions.

@someoneintheknow—Fight a loosing battle so corporate can win the war. You must be a D-Rate! Or a company blow hard type of person. And to the other guy who retired things are different these days only if you knew that the legacy of the great GE is gone!

All the signs are here for a classic case of a company imploding. This MF is going down and out.

2 tier pay scale is a poisonous model for worker morale. I know some of you white collars don’t understand. For us skilled workers (fabricators, machinists, etc.) who have 5 or more years in with the company and are still making $10 dollar an hour less than our older coworkers it’s just depressing. Power in Greenville is rotting from the inside in terms of production and quality because of the two tier and it sounds like Schenectady is much the same.

Wow. It's embarrassing to see the venom, rumors, and misinformation spewed by Sch'dy workers. I retired in the last VRIP, and got layed off in '79. It s---ed, but I made a career working hard for over 40 years here in 273.

Trusting your source about a median NYS income, what would possible make a worker think they deserve a median income by doing sub-median work with sub-median skills? Most folks are receiving full-time pay for part-time work. Some work hard. Everyone who works here came here voluntarily, regardless of which pay scale under which they get reimbursed. Arguably they left something worse to come to something better, if they didn't, they've got stuffing between their ears.

A lot of this griping sounds like entitled Millennials who've either forgotten or never learned how to actually work. S--- it up, Buttercup, and get the job done.

Trust your 301 Leadership. They've always worked hard for the membership.

Frankly, I'm ashamed.

if it doesn't come from the union then stop feeding the rumor mill, lmfao tell that to the battery plant people that got told for 6 months they'd be going back to work that they weren't getting laid off. can trust any of those in the hall. face it 301 is weak and even if they know do you think they'd tell us, hell no they dont want to lose those dues

Someoneintheknow.......you must be a D-Rate! Because the median household income in New York State is $42k a year. That’s what a lot of T-Rates make. So dont try to church it up like everyone in Schenectady has a great job. Yes, the D-Rates will definitely not find anything even close to equivelant to what they make now, but T-Rates will have no problem finding a job that pays just as good if not better (even if they have to work a bit harder for it). There is life after GE and the people who are trying to squash these rumors are the ones who are afraid to face the reality that we are currently on a collision course with. I hate to see anyone lose their job or get laid off, but a massive layoff in Schenectady may be a blessing in disguise. The work environment is absolutely vile right now in Building 273 and a lenghty or permanent layoff might give people the time to find a better career that they can rely on for the future. And that’s not even mentioning the benefits of not being exposed to the hazardous materials/chemicals that many workers in Schenectady are working around everyday.

Hopefully when the layoffs happen, everyone will find a new job....a better job. I know that I personally will never work in a Union ever again.....well definitley not a spineless one anyways.

this nonsense with this place is getting so annoying, they talk about cutting costs but yet our own cell leader can't show up for a 6 am meeting to dissect flannerys video and rub it in our faces how bad ge power is doing. listen if what we do isn't good enough ship it the f**k out nobody wants to keep hearing about the bad. constantly bringing up the negatives isn't good especially with morale at an all time low, not to mention most lower management and all of hourly have nothing to do with the financial side of the business. and as far as our worthless union goes if and I mean if these are rumors then you'd think they'd be all about squashing the bug, but instead they are leaving everyone in suspense wondering wtf is going on. frankly I'm just riding the wave too as well as most management and engineers whatever happens happens at this point I could careless

Don't care? You, and the 30% that you apparently are speaking for, must be a pack of goddamn retards. Regardless of your pay scale, most entry-level employees do not have transferable skills. Sincerely, good luck finding a better deal somewhere else. If you worked somewhere else before coming to GE, you must have amnesia, because 273 is literally the best place to work in the capital region, or arguably a much bigger geographical area. Stop spreading rumors. Yeah, we have competition from overseas, but we still have work, and you've got to be the most short-sighted quitter to throw in the towel rather than fight for your job.
