Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Is 10/29 or 11/1 the huge ad of the month

Are both dates equally bad?

Not sure if it’s all the stores, but ours was told that we’re responsible for our own marketing. They want us doing grass roots-type advertising locally. It’s really all up to the store manager. Ours is pretty good about it, and we’re relatively busy during these big sales.

This idea might actually work if we had any customers coming into the store to see we are having a sale. Looks like a ghost town in our store.

I doubt most district managers are this transparent, but ours straight-out TOLD us these “blowout” events (especially the handwritten signs) are designed specifically to make people believe we’re liquidating. Because, yes, when people believe it’s a liquidation, they buy more.

@zvd - "we all know liquidation sales cause people to buy things at ridiculous prices for absolutely no reason." You are 100% correct! That is exactly what happened during our store liquidation. We had to hand write the signs for that as well. An extremely tedious and time consuming process just to make the store look like a flea market. To top it off, half of the signs were illegible due to the combination of thick markers and poor penmanship.

Well during the holidays I'd guess the competition will have equality good sales. Maybe sears is just trying to beat the competition to the punch. Similar to how Black Friday seems to be getting longer and longer each year. Also yes, the hand written signs do seem to interest customers more because they assume it's a deeper sale (like how the closeout items get more attention) but covering the entire store with the signs may or may not do anything. People's eyes were sewn to the closeout signs because they were different than the rest.

They could be trying to have that out of business vibe on purpose since people all seem to believe it's gonna happen soon and we all know liquidation sales cause people to buy things at ridiculous prices for absolutely no reason.

@qwj 30 years wow!congratulations to you!! I’ve only been with company 11 years

It is strange that they are having back to back blow out sales and it isnt even in full holiday mode yet

Can’t imagine what it’s going to be like once Black Friday (Thursday ) gets closer

10/29 is the regular ad. It’s the Sunday of the first week of November, so yes, it’s huge, just like the first Sunday of every month. The blowout signing is for Tuesday and Wednesday, and is also huge, like the last blowout we had with all the handwritten signs. Just plan on signing literally all week.

NO L but I said it should have it on the bottom because that's what it is weather people want to believe it or not. I have been here for 30 years and never seen a blow out sale like this before the holiday even starts

@nub hopefully the sncs will be working. Does this blowout sale last all month also?

The signs really have the “L” word in them?

Handwritten signs look terrible in my opinion

And I remember a time when handwritten signs were totally against the rules!

The handwritten signs seem to generate more interest at Kmart, resulting in more actual purchases, while at Sears they look tacky next to upmarket, expensive Lands End merchandise, and make better customers want to flee the store because it looks like a flea market.

This Sundays add is nothing like what's coming on Tuesday and Wed . You will be completely covering the sales floor with these giant ugly red and yellow signs for the HOLIDAY BLOWOUT SALE. Should read in the lower corner somewhere (liquidation sale) but we wont get into that ... lol ... the signs on the racks will all be hand written, they want min of 13 people Wed to hand write each and every sign with the (WAS _ % OFF_NOW) on every sign this will be HELL for all involved. It is scheduled to take 2 days to complete this add, starts on Tue and end Wed so good luck to all.

I'm sorry sears has their heads up there A$$ with this sign package , I remember the days where ZERO hand written signs were allowed on the sales floor, looks tacky and again looks like we are going out of business ... like everyone thinks already ! Except some true believers on this sight and pebble, that think Eddie is truly trying to save this company and not get rich from the interest on his crazy loans and the sale of the properties
