Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Unofficial official layoff report 10/29/2017

A small layoff in India this week, fewer than 10 people? The total for FY18 remains at 7,150 laid off; 17,150 laid off since 6/1/2016.

Be well all and keep looking for better opportunities. Just a question of time till your number at oracle is up.

@PZXoQ0m-4rzq : thanks for the numbers

more than 1900... ouch... wandering in SCA I suspected that was massive, but didn't figure out how much. what a sorrow to see all those empty offices.

if I remember correctly ME/Solaris dev team under JF was around 2200, this means that 300 engineers are still here? I suppose only for sustaining....

what about systems dev? I heard MH (the indian one) is still surviving someway....

...and finally, after the 2 months warn period, we got final figures...

ES org on July 31st was 5852

ES org on Nov 1st is 3949

more than 1900 engineers gone, mostly (if not all) from SPARC/Solaris (and not counting those gone just before/after JF resignation)

MS org completely disappeared, still some "floating" members reporting to no one waiting for being fired when local rules will permit, so expect other people to be added in the count in the close future. Oracle has officially no more any me engineering (including perf analysts, bench specialists, etc..).

BN org still somewhat alive, basically only because of ZFSSA, but largely reduced, expect no new features on Solaris

"This makes no sense. Anyone in the world can serve as a reference to anyone else in the world. "

Most large companies, when queried about a former employee, will only provide a start and end date for their employment and provide no other information. It is my understanding that in most companies all managers are constrained by such a policy, hence why they are officially barred from giving references. Non management employees are not forbidden to give references.

"When I asked to use them as a reference another nod was given."

My understanding is that managers at Oracle are not allowed to give outside references. Internal is OK, though.

This makes no sense. Anyone in the world can serve as a reference to anyone else in the world. Oracle does not OWN people. Oracle has employees, not slaves!

@PZXoQ0m-1bvv I received a gentle nod from my manager when I inquired if the rumors were true. When I asked to use them as a reference another nod was given.

the good thing about being laid off in India is that all are citizens there, so no worry about US immigration laws.. .. no worry of H1 status and stuff. So Enjoy the lay off as it gets you the chance to find the next big thing for your career.

You are as good as US citizen being laid off in California.

They should be all happy.
