Executive Schedules

Executive schedules will soon start being made by MSP in test districts. Is this because they plan to make executives hourly next year?

PaCnzmh-nice to hear the viewpoint from a VPSM. My VPSM is fair and a very good leader. The best I have ever worked with and I've reported to a few . It is very complicated to be an SM these days. Refreshing to hear a VPSM say it is difficult. Sometimes I feel we don't get the credit nor appreciation. In fact if my VPSM just said hey I know your job is tough I know it's difficult let's talk about it....id probably feel a million times better. Nobody wants to open this conversation up. I feel like if I did my VPSM would see me as weak and unable to handle it.

It's interesting to hear how different the schedules are being written for SMs. For over 11 years I've always followed the six weekend days off in a six week rotation. My managers get two full weekends off every six week rotation and the other two remaining weekend days are split up. My VPSM peers do the same thing. I feel for the stories you're sharing. The inconsistency makes me crazy because our SMs have so many expectations thrown on them. I started as an SM many, many years ago, and I don't believe I would survive if in the role now. The future is worrisome.

lol this is all to funny and you are all missing the bigger picture .. when jobs start to turn to hourly your executive position will one day convert to a lead job. The company will get rid of what they consider are over paid executives and higher leads at a cheaper rate. Look at visual and receiving managers . The stores used to have visual managers and receiving managers in every store and now all those positions have been replaced by leads in lower volume stores.. Dont be to excited about controling schedules and getting overtime. It just means that at some point you will be replaced with a lower paying executive who won't get comp weeks and will be a great pay cut for stores.. if you think it won't happen look again at visual and receiving positions they have been replacing them for 3 years now and these positions converting to hourly 5 years ago .. the company thinks it's a great idea and they have been doing just fine.. we are all replaceable..

So I'm an idiot? If you read my post you would have saw that I like working Friday-Sunday because I'm able to be on my selling floors to affect my business when we do have traffic. A weekend break is nice every 6 weeks which would still apply. It would be nice to utilize 3 unavailable days per month to MY choosing instead of a VPSM dictating which days I get off and writing a schedule to their benefit not the managers. If you do not want to work Friday-Sunday in retail as an executive you should look into a different career.

You idiot it's not really your schedule if you can't control Friday or Sunday, using unavailable days 3 per month and only 2 weekends is not your schedule it's still the company's schedule!

I'd love to get a "taste" of managing my own schedule. Being an executive requires flexibility. I have no need to swap or advertise my shifts. I like that I will be able to have a bit of control over my schedule. I'd like to be able to set my own availability and have a set day off during the week and to set a closing day each week for myself to have a bit of stability. I know I can not change or set Friday-Sunday but I want to be there those days regardless that is when my people need me and the majority of traffic in the store is. Pleas give me a taste of what you claim to go through.

I'm more than fine going hourly as they will turn my salary I make into an hourly rate, I'm more than pleased with that. Any hour over 40 I'm there is time and a half and I average 55 hours a week so eitheir I'm going to only work 40

Hours a week or I'm going to make even more Money than I do now because of the OT. Either is a win! I'm also I'm fine with msp generating my schedule I'm tired of hearing I can't have this day or weekend day off because of this or that sale. Or the old I need you here excuse. I can manage my own PTO and put it in as long as it's not blacked out and I don't need VPSM approval for it. Do I get unavailable days to, 3 a month to utilize? I hope we go this route. I'm tired of schedule favoritism. We do get a weekend off every 6 week rotation. It would be nice to be able to select that weekend (non blackout) myself. Yep I'm all about this. I like it so much I hope I'm a test market door

They'll get a taste of what we go threw finally. I hope they lock their schedules too so they can't swap or advertise their shift.
