it's sad that a once great company such as ge is in such a downward spiral, the environment at the schenectady plant is so gloom that people would rather have a layoff then be here and deal with the nonsense. I've talked to many people here that are so eager and ready to be laid of it isn't funny

I am terribly sorry to hear that there are job losses in Schenectady, but the facts are you cannot totally blame Alstom for this. GE actually closed Alstom's only new make Steam Turbine facility in the USA in Chattanooga TN and terminated every employee there. They moved every brand new machine from that plant to other GE sites including Schenectady. GE was willing to close a brand new facility with state of the art equipment in order to keep work in Schenectady ! The market for new equipment is crap right now and GE is not as competitive as they once were. (True:Some of that is cost from Alstom deal). Schenectady is the only plant in the US that can produce new steam turbines right now, but unfortunately that is just not good enough to save jobs.
Notices in Schenectady going out today. Thanks Alstom!
only going to get worse before it gets better
Leadership has high morale after paying themselves huge stock payouts. I thought we were in difficult times and we needed to cut cost. Wait, they are going to cut cost..... Layoffs.
Agreed, all time low with my co-workers in Schenectady.
Much of the same here in Greenville.
All time low (morale)
