"Clearly they don't value IT at all at UP. Leave now!"

TRULY...THEY VALUE VERY FEW EMPLOYEES. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IS AN EASY TARGET BECAUSE THEY CAN OUTSOURCE (OFF SHORE) A LARGE SHARE OF THAT TYPE OF WORK.

I know of several in IT that volunteered but were not accepted. I truly hope most of them quit - the ones I know are a week or two away from job offers at other companies. Clearly they don't value IT at all at UP. Leave now!

Oh it really happened - I got laid off on 9/15. 500 in management let go, I'm not sure how many were voluntary. In IT - 100 were voluntary and 67 were involuntary. The re-org happened in IT on Monday 9/18. Most above manager got demoted. I somehow doubt they had to take a pay cut though.

word is there is a hiring freeze now in certain service units more cuts to come within a month. Got some managers doing the job of those who took buy outs.

I can give a little more insight into departments affected. IT took the biggest hit, >20% reduction across the board. Safety / UP Police also took a giant hit, not sure of the numbers. M&S and Operating may have also been high, but far less than IT/Safety.

So all this to meet the 7% goal overall - so what departments were safe? Of course, Finance and HR. Of course the ones who figure out the quotas turn out to not need any cuts in their own departments!

All departments people are getting title changes. Smto gone, foreman generals gone, I'm sure every other department is going to get hit. I've even heard they're doing away with most of the car foreman positions.

Demotions were already happening before this layoff

I don't know what departments but assume all are at risk like the last layoff in 2015. UP is a top heavy company and even their little consulting group told them the same thing. UP is really looking to reduce the number of people and titles they have in upper management.

Some have already been informed. The remaining will be over the course of the next two days. This aligns with UPs original statement they wanted this process complete by mid September. It's sad and unfortunate this leadership does not inform employees when things like this will occur. Other large organizations are much more transparent. Poor poor poor executive leadership.
