How many people believe these layoffs are targeting older people?
Do you have any proof?

You'd have to aggregate the waves of layoffs to see what the overall percentage is over forty. Same thing with par scores. If those over forty have disproportionately bad pars, then the cheese is rotten in Denmark.
All Walmart has to do is nitpick performance and give a bad PAR score and boom, butt covered. It's happening to a 30 year associate in my area now. I will say though that our other 30 year associate got "associate of the quarter". Who really knows.
I heard if you take severance you waive your right to sue.
That seems...strategic.
It seems to me that if you're around forty or older, you have a greater propensity to hit the layoff list.
Don't know how you prove something like that though.
As the old saying goes: every rumor has at least a shred of truth. In this case, I would say yes, age IS is a factor. BUT, as we all know, WM is the king of cover ups. And, when caught, will deny, appeal or bribe (aka: politically contribute) their way to a reasonable outcome (for them; but not so much for the associates.) While writing this, I was reminded of two conversations I had with older, less-than-healthy associates in Finance. Both were adamant about hiding their ailments from the EVP. When I asked why, they both said that they were scared of losing their jobs. At first, I thought they were just being paranoid but in looking back, perhaps they were on to something??
Not hard to say..hard to prove.
Hard to say.
